POSITION AVAILABLE 

Fulltime Physical and Health Disabilities (PI) Teacher
District wide position
Salary and benefits based on the 2024-2025 Teacher Contract

189 -day calendar
  
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide itinerant services to students with disabilties and ensure their full access to education through accomodations, assistive technology, and due process compliance.
  • Travel to different school buildings.
  • Serve as a member of interdisciplinary child study teams (e.g. DAPE teachers, OTs, PTs, special ed teachers) and participate in meetings for the purpose of identification, assessment, ongoing evaluation, development of IEPs, follow-up, and termination of service.
  • Develop and implement direct and indirect services based on individual evaluation and the IEP or 504 plans with specific, measurable goals tailored to the students' medical, physical, and cognitive needs.  The focus of these services may include, but are not limited to:
    1. Assistive Technology (AT): Recommend, secure, and mointor the use of AT devices, mobility aids (wheelchairs, walkers), and orthoses so students can participate in classroom activities
    2. Curriculum Modification: Adapt instructional materials, testing environments, and classroom expectations to match the physical or health-related abilities of the student.
    3. Health Monitoring: Coordinate with school health services staff and medical professionals to manage chronic illnesses, traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), and medical procedures in the school setting.
    4. transportation needs of students
  • Ensure that all students served receive required due process, strictly adhering to state and federal special education laws regarding evaluations, timelines, and meeting procedures.
  • Participate in the training of education assistants and teachers who work with disabled students.  This may be 1:1 instruction for individual students and will include lifting and transfer techniques, walking techniques, positioning techniques, and use of adaptive equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, AFOs and TLSOs.
  • Foster an inclusive, safe, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Participate in school meetings, training programs, and professional learning activities.


 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current PELSB Physical & Health Disabilities license
  • Pediatric work experience preferred
  • Knowledge of work assessment preferred
