Description
Position Summary: The communications coordinator is responsible for all communications from the school district to the community, staff, and the public.
Essential duties and responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
1. Make decisions and demonstrate leadership that supports the mission, vision, goals, and interests of the district and of students
2. Coordinate all daily and emergency communications for the school district, including: news releases, website content and editing, photographs, video content, and social media.
3. Lead communications for special district projects and presentations to the Board of Education
4. Assist superintendent in crafting effective and clear communications with students, parents, community, and staff. Coordinates with other departments to gather and disseminate information effectively.
5. Prepare district publications, including but not limited to: the district calendar, handbook, graphics, posters
6. Prepare and publish community newsletter as well as an internal staff newsletter
7. Prepare and update graphic design and writing for district publications, including logos, letterheads, web pages, district publications, and State-required reports
8. Assist and guide in the preparation of target communication messages for specific projects and tasks
9. Prepare and publish an annual district report to the community
10. Supervise the Student Board Member program
11. Develop and extend the district's communications efforts
12. Serve as liaison to the PEP Foundation
13. At times, attend after-school/evening events including, but not limited to: Board of Education meetings, Citizen Advisory Committee meetings, and eighth-grade promotion
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualification Requirements:
• Completion of requirements for a high school diploma. A college or university degree is preferred.
• College coursework in communications, print, and/or electronic media.
• The equivalent of three or more years' communications experience.
• Experience with website editing and electronic office software.
Skills Required:
• Ability to read, interpret, and write printed and verbal information. Ability to write professional correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with the public, media, and staff.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts using basic mathematics related to school district information; e.g., student test performance.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board policies
Physical Demands:
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
• The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, operate a computer, sit, and occasionally to reach with hands and arms.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, such as student assessment reports.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Long-term use of computer monitors is required.
Work Environment:
• Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
• Work is usually conducted indoors. This work could be conducted at any school district location.
Evaluation: Job performance is evaluated in accordance to district guidelines by the superintendent.
Salary and Benefits:
The Salary for this position will be commensurate with experience.
Administrative staff will earn vacation time, 12 sick days and 4 personal days of paid time off.
