JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/REQUIREMENTS:

PASB is a non-audition, public school dedicated to offering quality instruction that prepares students to achieve their dreams and contribute enthusiastically to their community, country, and world. Key to the student experience at PASB is instruction and opportunities in the performing arts. While the performing arts is a thriving industry and offers multiple meaningful career paths, the vision of PASB is to inspire a love of learning and teach skills in creativity, communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership. We believe students prepared in this way will find success in their chosen path and become the leaders who change the world.

The role of the PSOC is to ensure all students achieve success in high school by meeting graduation requirements - all course credits and Capstone expectations. PSOCs work with students individually and collectively to communicate graduation requirements and plan for their future after graduation. This process includes but is not limited to college, for scholarship opportunities, internships, and other post-secondary options. All Mapleton PSOCs works collaboratively across schools to provide equitable support for all Mapleton students and to support each other in this work.

Instructional Planning: PASB teachers use district approved curriculum to plan units of instruction aligned to priority standards. With support from the Instructional Guide and inspired by the performing arts, teachers plan lessons that ensure all students meet grade level proficiency expectations and are prepared for postsecondary opportunities.

Performing Arts: All elective classes at PASB are connected to the Performing Arts including music, dance, acting, and technical theater - including but not limited to set design, construction, audio/sound, visual projections/lighting, stage management, house management, and marketing. PASB's CTE Pathway is "Technical Theater" which provides students with opportunities in industries in stage production and various audio and visual production fields.

ACTIVE PEDAGOGY: Teaching and learning are active and engaging in PASB classrooms. Effective instructional practices promote equity and high expectations: they make the content of units come alive, ensure that all students think and participate, and allow the teacher to know all students and their thinking well.  Knowledge of each student's level of understanding and participation leads teachers to differentiate instruction.

CULTURE AND CHARACTER: The school culture at PASB is characterized by our "ensembles." Ensembles are multi-grade level advisory classes that support both academic success and culture building. Like a performing or musical ensemble, PASB ensembles are made up of a group of people, different in talents, abilities, and roles, but united in the goal of creating a welcoming and supportive environment where all individuals can succeed. All PASB students are involved in large-scale production in some way. Whether as a performer on stage, a crew-member backstage, a stage manager running communications, a technician controlling lights and sound, or our front of house managers who support customer service and lead a team of ushers, all students get the authentic, real-word experience of creating a product to share with the public and being part of a team that must work together to ensure a successful show. These experiences are paramount in creating PASB's strong collaborative school culture.  The climate at PASB is characterized by physical and emotional safety, respect and courtesy, and a disciplined environment. Teachers foster student character through challenging academic work, service, and the expectation that students are courteous, respectful, and compassionate.

School leaders, teachers, and staff at PASB are members of a community of learners. Professionals work together to share expertise, improve the school's program, build background knowledge in their disciplines, and model collaborative learning for students. Staff culture is characterized by a respectful collegiality where teachers resist judgment and blame and support each other in improving practice.

LEADERSHIP AND SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT: Leaders at PASB create a professional community that focuses on curriculum and instruction as the primary vehicles for improving student achievement and school culture.  Teachers and school leaders collect data to understand student achievements, assess teaching practices, and make informed decisions about instruction.

STRUCTURES: At PASB the schedule serves instructional and curricular priorities. Blocks of class time, opportunities for integration of the disciplines, and common planning time for teachers are priorities. The schedule accommodates project work, fieldwork, service learning, flexible groupings of students, as well as integration with the performing arts and rehearsal and performances for larger productions. Time is scheduled during the school year and summer for whole-school professional development and collaboration across grade levels and subject areas.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Teachers develop a culture whereby professional development is expected and embedded into the daily fabric of the school.  Professional development is tailored and supports the implementation of core practices and benchmarks. Professional development will take on many forms including large group presentations, grade level or discipline specific team meetings or workshops, peer observations, team teaching and offsite institutes and workshops.
