Description

Primary Purpose:

To provide rigorous instruction in  English that prepares students for advanced academic success, fosters critical thinking, and supports mastery of state standards. The teacher will create an engaging classroom environment that promotes analytical reading, advanced writing, and thoughtful discussion.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate in English Language Arts (Grades 7–12)
  • Gifted/Talented endorsement or willingness to obtain (preferred)
  • AP or Pre-AP training preferred (College Board or district approved)

Experience:

  • Successful secondary ELA teaching experience preferred
  • Experience teaching Pre-AP, Honors, or Advanced courses strongly preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional:

  • Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned with TEKS and the district's Pre-AP English curriculum.
  • Challenge students with high expectations and college-readiness skills in reading, writing, grammar, and analysis.
  • Integrate complex texts, literary and rhetorical analysis, and structured writing tasks into instruction.
  • Monitor and assess student progress through formative and summative assessments; use data to inform instruction.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic needs of Pre-AP learners.

Classroom Management:

  • Establish and maintain a classroom culture of respect, inquiry, and academic rigor.
  • Implement district and campus policies and procedures related to student discipline and classroom operations.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in department PLCs, campus professional development, and instructional coaching.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, students, and colleagues.
  • Support schoolwide literacy initiatives and collaborate with ELA team members.

  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Handle multiple priorities and frequent interruptions

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

  • Occasional lifting of materials (up to 25 pounds)
  • Standard classroom environment

Evaluation:

*Salary is commensurate with experience
*Minimum Salary $66,000 for fully certified teachers
*Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
