Alternative Learning Program Teacher

Summary

Is responsible for teaching students in an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development to ensure success for every student. Individual implements instruction in a manner consistent with the Goals and Mission of Lincoln County Public Schools including understanding, modeling and fostering independent thinking skills, creative problem solving and abstract reasoning; and develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all learners.


A. RESPONSIBILITIES

General and Specific Responsibilities of the Alternative Learning Teacher shall include:

1. Is punctual for school/classes/activities.

2. Provides proper care, protection, maintenance use and storage of school supplies, equipment and property while under his/her supervision.

3. Implements weekly/daily lesson plans provided by classroom teachers.

4. Implements the school policy on the Alternative Learning Program, implements county instructional policies, and implements count procedures to the best of their ability.

5. Utilize the resources of special support personnel, as the behavior exhibited by student(s) which required placement in the Alternative Learning program must be addressed during the time in ALP (ex: counseling, FBA/Behavior Plan, etc.)

B. Relationship to Others

1. Work under the direct supervision of the Assistant Superintendent or his/her designee.

2. To work in a cooperative manner with the staff to plan and implement the Alternative Learning Program for student.

D. Qualifications

1. Valid West Virginia teaching certificate with special education endorsement.

2. Special abilities to work with students behavioral and/or academic problems.

3. Experience in working with students who have behavioral and/or academic problems.

4. Ability to plan and implement a model Alternative Learning Program.

5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board and Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

E. Functions and Duties

1. Meets and instructs students who are assigned to the Alternative Learning Program.

2. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate needs of the student assigned to the Alternative Learning Program.

3. Shows written evidence (lesson plans) of implementation upon request of the immediate supervisor.

4. To implement all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and for the classroom, develops responsible rules for the Alternative Learning Program and maintains order in the center in a fair and just manner.

5. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with physical limitations of the location provided and the

needs and the capabilities of the individuals or the students involved in the Alternative Learning Program.

6. Incorporate real life situations into the instructional techniques and utilize community resources where appropriate to enhance the learning activity.

7. Through the above activities strive to implement the county's philosophy of Education and instructional goals and objectives.


8. Works in cooperation with other faculty and staff in assessing whether students in the Alternative Learning Program have completed their work.

9. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

10. Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, county policy and administrative regulations.


11. Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes during the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

12. In applicable circumstances, plan and supervise purposeful and meaningful assignments for teacher's aides and/or volunteer(s), and cooperatively with department heads or supervisors, evaluate their job performance.

13. Perform additional and reasonable duties and activities as assigned by the principal or his/her designee when there are no students in the Alternative Learning Program.

14. Keep accurate enrollment and attendance records for ALC grant purposes.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
