Social Studies Teacher

Brother Rice High School is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and student-centered full-time Social Studies Teacher for the 2026 - 2027 academic year. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong instructional ability, enthusiasm for working with high school boys, and a commitment to supporting the Catholic mission and Christian values of the Brother Rice community.
Brother Rice High School is a Catholic, college-preparatory school sponsored by the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers and rooted in the educational mission of Edmund Rice. The school is dedicated to the intellectual, spiritual, moral, and social development of young men through a faith-centered education grounded in compassion, discipline, service, and the pursuit of excellence. Faculty members are expected to serve not only as teachers, but also as mentors, role models, and active contributors to the broader life of the school.
Position Responsibilities
- Teach high school five Social Studies courses as assigned (e.g., World History, U.S. History, Government, Economics, Psychology, or elective offerings)
- Develop engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans that promote critical thinking, historical inquiry, discussion, and active student participation
- Foster a structured, respectful, and engaging classroom environment tailored to the developmental needs of adolescent boys
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, assessments, and educational technologies to support student learning and growth
- Maintain accurate and timely records of attendance, grades, and student progress using school learning management and grading systems
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, colleagues, and administration.
- Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), department collaboration, and ongoing professional development
- Support the mission, traditions, and extracurricular life of the school through involvement in school activities, clubs, retreats, service opportunities, coaching, or moderation opportunities when appropriate
- Model professionalism, integrity, and Christian values in interactions with students and the school community
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Social Studies, History, Political Science, Education, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred
- Valid Illinois teaching certification (or ability to obtain certification)
- Strong content knowledge and effective classroom management skills
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational abilities
- Ability to build positive relationships with students while serving as a mentor and role model
- Commitment to fostering academic excellence within a Catholic, all-boys educational environment
