JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: ELEMENTARY INTERVENTIONIST
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid and current elementary or primary-level Illinois teacher license
- Reading Specialist certification (preferred)
- Mathematics and ESL endorsements (preferred)
- Masters in Literacy or Mathematics Education or related field or National Board Certification (preferred)
- Evidence of at least three (3) years of exemplary classroom teaching experience (preferred)
- Excellent communication skills
- A proven track record in the use of a rich array of instructional methods, the analysis and use of data and technology to improve instruction, and the ability to build professional relationships, solve problems, and plan collaboratively.
- Evidence of planning, organization, and time management skills that will bring structure and accountability to the position.
- Proven ability to apply literacy and mathematical content knowledge, formative assessment, and technology integration at a high level.
- Deep understanding of student learning styles, brain-based learning, and differentiated instruction; relative to both content and language.
- Desire to continue learning "what works" in literacy and mathematics instruction, as well as MTSS.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
To provide focused interventions to small groups of and/or individual students in accordance with our district and school MTSS plans.
REPORTS TO:
Building Principal and Director of School Improvement
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides direct instruction to students identified as eligible for literacy and math services in individual, and/or small group settings, including push-in and pull-out services.
- Uses identified needs to guide the learning process toward student achievement of the District's literacy and math content standards.
- Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects using formal and informal assessment data obtained from students.
- Uses a variety of manipulatives and hands-on activities to support content standards and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Creates a classroom environment and research-based program of study that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Conducts student assessments to identify those eligible for intervention services, to plan instruction, and/or to assist staff members in learning various assessment techniques. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Communicate student progress to parents and teachers on a continuous basis.
- Collaborates, as needed, with appropriate school/district personnel regarding students who may need specialized interventions.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional learning through professional development activities.
- Leads MTSS discussions and decisions.
- Participates in discussions or activities focused on using research to improve literacy and math.
- Participates in staff development focused on delivery of literacy and math core, intervention, and assessment.
