Description

Primary Purpose:

To develop and implement a physical education program that promotes physical fitness, healthy habits, teamwork, and motor skills in elementary-aged students. The teacher will provide instruction aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and foster a positive learning environment.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies:

  • Develop and deliver engaging PE lessons based on district curriculum and TEKS.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet the physical and developmental needs of all students.
  • Create lesson plans that promote lifelong physical activity and wellness.

Student Management:

  • Establish clear expectations for behavior and safety during PE activities.
  • Organize and manage students effectively to maintain a positive, structured environment.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress in physical fitness and skill development.

Classroom and Equipment Management:

  • Maintain a clean, organized gym or outdoor activity space.
  • Properly manage PE equipment and ensure student safety during use.
  • Report equipment needs and facility concerns to campus administration.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other staff as needed to support student development.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and campus-wide initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and PE program goals.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate in Physical Education EC–6 or EC–12

Experience:

  • Prior teaching experience preferred, especially with elementary-aged students

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of physical education content and pedagogy
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage diverse learners in an active setting

    *Salary is commensurate with experience
    *Minimum Salary $66,000
    * Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
     
    Sheldon ISD will accept applications for this position through June 7, 2026. After this date, applications will continue to be accepted in the event a suitable candidate is not identified.
