Description
The Lower Keys Academic Connections for Excellence program which is operated out of Key West High School in Key West, Florida, has an opening for a highly qualified alternative education teaching position. The Alternative Education Teacher will work with middle and high school age students (grades 6-12) in a small setting, focusing on coursework to assist students in graduating on time. Based on the teacher certifications, we implement a blended model whereby courses can be either directly taught to students and/or via virtual online courses.

Salary: Base Salary ranges from $62,700 to $104,700, commensurate with experience.

Eligibility for Florida certification is required. FL certification in Social Science 6-12 is a prerequisite for teaching in field. The Bureau of Educator Certification has developed instructional videos to guide applicants through the certification process, covering topics such as Florida's Online Educator Certification System Set-up and the Florida Teacher Certification Application. How to Become FL Certified in Social Science (Grades 6-12):
- Out-of-State Certification: If you hold an unexpired, out-of-state, professional educator certificate in this subject area, please apply for Florida reciprocity.
- Social Science Major: Commonly accepted bachelor's (or higher degree) majors for a Florida temporary educator certificate include: Social Science, Social Studies, American History, History, Western Civilization, World History, Geography, Economic Geography (and other specialized areas of geography), Economics, Civics, Government, International Relations, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Educational Psychology (and other specialized areas of Psychology), Philosophy.
- Other Majors: For other degree majors, passing the FTCE Subject Area Exam in Social Science 6-12 is required. Visit the testing website http://www.fl.nesinc.com/tests.asp for further details.
