THE SCHOOL BOARD OF HIGHLANDS COUNTY

 

POSITION TITLE:  Speech & Language Pathologist

ASSIGNMENT:  Speech & Language Pathologist

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's degree or Bachelor's degree in Speech/Language Pathology/Communication Disorders from an accredited educational institution  (Acceptance into a graduate program in same is required prior to expiration of temporary certificate)
  2. Certification in Speech/Language Pathology by the State of Florida and/or licensure in Speech/Language Pathology by the State of Florida, Department of Professional Regulations
  3. Physical requirements to perform essential functions and tasks which may include exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 pounds of force as frequently as necessary; lifting, crawling, kneeling, bending, stooping, pulling, and pushing, if required
  4. Satisfactory clearance of a criminal history records check and drug screening

PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Establishes long and short range plans based on student needs and consistent with district and state requirements
  2. Selects materials to support learning objectives and meet the needs of students with diverse backgrounds and special needs
  3. Plans a therapy program for eligible students, including implementation and annual review of the Individual Education Plan (IEP)
  4. Participates in school level child study teams as appropriate
  5. Provides statistical information for program planning, such as, FTE information, severity rating data, end of year reports, matriculation reports, screening results, and other relevant data
  6. Schedules students for speech/language impaired program taking into account the total educational setting
  7. Orders materials and supplies for program implementation
  8. Prepares and maintains audit files on all speech/language impaired students
  9. Maintains a positive, organized, and safe learning environment
  10. Manages time efficiently
  11. Manages materials and equipment effectively
  12. Establishes and maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures
  13. Demonstrates knowledge of techniques and instruments used to diagnose speech/language impairments
  14. Identifies students who have speech and/or language impairments through screening and/or diagnostic assessments
  15. Determines eligibility for speech/language impaired program
  16. Analyzes/interprets results of screening or diagnostic assessment
  17. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of assigned area (speech/language pathology)
  18. Applies principles of learning and effective teaching
  19. Uses appropriate materials, technology, and resources to help meet student's needs
  20. Uses strategies appropriate for working with students from diverse backgrounds
  21. Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively involved in the learning process
  22. Recognizes overt indicators of student distress or abuse and take appropriate intervention referral, or reporting action
  23. Assists audiologist in conducting hearing screening and medical follow-up for referred students
  24. Consults with parents, teachers, principals, and others as appropriate, concerning general guidelines of speech and language development and specifically students enrolled in the program
  25. Uses effective, positive intercommunications skills
  26. Interprets educational policies, programs, and procedures relative to the speech/language program
  27. Communicates effectively, orally and in writing, with other professionals, students, parents and community
  28. Provides information and/or inservice to teachers, administrators, and other school personnel
  29. Engages in continuing improvement of professional knowledge and skills
  30. Conducts a personal assessment, periodically, to determine professional development needs
  31. Acts in a professional and ethical manner and adheres, at all times, to the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct
  32. Perform and fulfills professional responsibilities
  33. Performs other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position

Other duties as assigned by supervising administrator

TERM:

Length of contract and number of hours worked are determined by specific allocation as approved annually during planning-budgeting process

APPRAISAL:

Performance will be appraised annually in accordance with School Board Policy

PAYGRADE:

According to the School Board of Highlands County Instructional Salary Schedule

(Note: Bachelor's level Speech Language Impaired teachers will be eligible for a Temporary Educator's Certificate and paid as an Associate Teacher; upon meeting requirements for Professional Educator's Certificate or full state licensure, index will be applied to base salary.)
