TITLE: Full Time Groundskeeper
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor & Transportation Director or Designee
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
- Must possess a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, irrigation, custodial work, or general maintenance preferred
- Ability to safely operate lawn care equipment, tractors, snow removal equipment, hand tools, and power tools
- Knowledge of irrigation systems, turf care, fertilization, pruning, and seasonal grounds maintenance preferred
- Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a team
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions year-round
- Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain a high standard of campus appearance
- Ability to lift 40 lbs. regularly and 80 lbs. occasionally
- Dependable with strong work ethic, positive attitude, and strong interpersonal skills
- Must possess any other qualifications the Board, Superintendent, Maintenance Supervisor, or Transportation & Maintenance Director deem necessary or advisable

Summer Maintenance and Student Workers
JOB GOAL:
The Groundskeeper / Grounds Maintenance Technician shall maintain district grounds, outdoor facilities, and exterior campus areas in a condition of excellence, cleanliness, safety, and appearance so that the educational environment reflects pride, professionalism, and community standards year-round.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Grounds & Landscape Maintenance
- Maintain all district grounds, lawns, landscaping, athletic areas, sidewalks, parking lots, and exterior campus spaces in a clean, safe, and manicured condition
- Perform mowing, trimming, edging, weed control, fertilization, pruning, watering, and irrigation system maintenance
- Assist with planting, landscaping improvements, seasonal flower beds, and beautification projects
- Maintain playgrounds, courtyards, entrances, fences, signage, and outdoor furniture areas
- Remove trash, debris, weeds, and hazards from district property daily
- Monitor and maintain irrigation systems to ensure proper operation and water conservation
- Assist with preventative maintenance and care of grounds equipment and tools
- Maintain inventory of groundskeeping supplies, materials, and equipment
- Work toward independently preparing, striping, painting, and maintaining athletic fields, including football field painting, baseball field, softball field, community field and athletic event setup
Seasonal & Year-Round Campus Maintenance
- Assist with snow and ice removal from sidewalks, entrances, parking lots, and other district property areas
- Operate snow removal equipment and apply ice melt materials safely and efficiently
- Perform outdoor maintenance tasks year-round as weather permits to ensure the campus maintains a pristine appearance
- Assist with exterior painting, repairs, pressure washing, signage upkeep, and campus improvement projects
- Help maintain safe and attractive outdoor environments during athletic events, activities, and community events
- Identify and report safety concerns, maintenance issues, irrigation leaks, or damaged grounds equipment promptly
Maintenance Support
- Assist maintenance and custodial staff with general maintenance duties as assigned
- Participate in preventative maintenance practices to reduce equipment and facility breakdowns
- Safely store and handle chemicals, fertilizers, fuels, and maintenance materials in accordance with district procedures
- Maintain written records of grounds maintenance schedules, repairs, equipment service, and seasonal work completed
Other Duties
- Treat colleagues, students, staff, and community members with respect and dignity
- Work collaboratively with administration, custodial staff, maintenance personnel, coaches, and activity sponsors
- Attend required district trainings and meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor, Transportation & Maintenance Director, or Superintendent
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year as described in district policy.
EVALUATION:
Performance of the Groundskeeper / Grounds Maintenance Technician will be evaluated annually by the Maintenance Supervisor following the evaluation criteria as written in the RD-2 Policy Manual.
