POSITION:  Teacher, Middle School English Language Arts

LOCATION:  2300 West 67th Place, Denver, CO 80221 - Trailside Academy

PAY RANGE: Licensed Salary Schedule; $63,301 - $128,842 Annual Salary 

CALENDAR: 190 Days

REPORTS TO: School Director/Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Colorado teaching license with an appropriate English Language Arts endorsement required. 
  • Additional endorsement in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education preferred, *or willingness to pursue endorsement or equivalent coursework. *

     

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/REQUIREMENTS:

Learning Expeditions:

  • Plan and implement standards-based units in literacy, math, science and social studies.
  • Develop and use rubrics to assess student work.
  • Create and administer formative assessments to monitor student learning and adjust instruction throughout the teaching and learning cycle.
  • Arrange and facilitate well-planned fieldwork to support expeditions.

 

Active Pedagogy:

  • Employ a range of effective instructional practices (active pedagogy) to give students the support they need to complete projects and meet standards.
  • Develop lesson plans that ensure that instruction is paced well, encourages all students to think, engages all students in productive work throughout the class period, and ensures smooth classroom management.
  • Use flexible groups and ongoing assessment to confer with students and provide differentiated instruction.
  • Work with students to create assessment criteria connected to standards and help them understand, reflect on, and take responsibility for their learning.
  • Implement school wide instructional practices and strategies obtained through professional development opportunities.
  • Design lesson plans that both teach writing and support understanding of content in all subject areas.
  • Design lesson plans that both teach reading and support understanding of content in all subject areas.

 

Culture and Character:

  • Develop and implement detailed plans for crew in keeping with school priorities and structures.
  • Choose instructional practices, compelling topics, and projects that promote character development.
  • Promote and fully participate positively in the staff culture of the school.
  • Be willing and able to collaborate with peers in the development of curriculum and school structures.
  • Be willing and open to give and receive support from peers to improve teaching practices.
  • Attend and take full advantage of the professional development offered to the school.
  • Willingness to attend professional development opportunities that may include out-of-state travel and or weekend attendance.

 

Leadership and School Improvement:

  • Make data driven decisions about what instruction will best support students.
  • Discuss assessment results openly with colleagues.
  • Use data to assess your own performance and set individual improvement goals.
  • Work with school leadership to evaluate school performance and set school improvement goals.

 

Structures:

  • Establish effective structures for classroom management and progress reporting for your classroom that align with the school's reporting systems.
  • Work with school leadership to revise drafts of calendars and schedules based on benchmarks.

 

TRAINING: 

  • Mandatory Title IX training is required by the Colorado Department of Education and for all public school employees. Title IX training addresses harassment, discrimination, and bullying. Completing these mandatory Title IX training courses ensure we are meeting state requirements while continuing to foster a culture of safety and belonging across our schools.
  • You will have two mandatory training courses that must be completed within 30 days of your date of hire and are required to be completed on your own time.
