QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid teacher certification
- Minimum bachelor's degree (master's degree preferred)
- Administrative experience preferred
- Meets health and physical requirements
JOB GOAL
Create a consistent, district-wide process for collecting and analyzing attendance data in order to respond to attendance concerns proactively rather than reactively while maintaining compliance with Tennessee attendance laws.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coordinates pupil personnel services regarding attendance matters
Assists in the verification of student residence
Works closely with principals, teachers, guidance counselors, and juvenile court services regarding students who are absent or tardy too frequently and who have not responded to the corrective efforts made by the building principal
Checks the student files and the attendance patterns of chronic offenders before any investigation or action is taken
Participates in individual or group counseling sessions whenever needed or requested by a principal or assistant principal
Maintains and keeps on file a system of attendance referrals
Contacts the parent or guardian by phone, mail, or home visit
Initiates juvenile petitions and prepares cases for both informal and formal hearings
Documents outcomes of contacts, visits, and court hearings and reports to the principal and/or guidance counselor (and one or the other reports to the teacher)
Attends juvenile court when cases are presented, using the services of the school attorney if necessary
May interview and recommend placement of students returning from schools of correction or juvenile detention centers after consulting with the juvenile judge
Appears personally at school assemblies when requested and is available to teachers, students, and parents on an individual basis to explain attendance laws and school policies regarding the importance of regular school attendance by every student
Serves as a liaison between schools, parents, juvenile court, community agencies, and local law officers
Moves about the community during school hours and provides immediate service to students who are on the street or in public places requesting assistance from law officers when necessary
Works closely with guidance counselors in the identification of potential dropouts, including monitoring academic progress.
Maintains the system's records of attendance and implementation and enforcement of zone boundaries
Confers with the director of special services before any court action is taken regarding any special education student for poor attendance
Uses spreadsheets and district student information systems to accurately enter, organize, analyze, and interpret information, ensuring data integrity, supporting reporting needs, and contributing to informed decision-making through clear and reliable data management practices.
Performs other duties as assigned

Data Perception: Ability to understand and interpret information that may be presented in the form of graphs, charts, or tables
