Holland Public Schools, located in Holland Michigan. The district has four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school and has an enrollment of approximately 3000 students.  We offer a dual language immersion program in Spanish in grades K-8.  Holland Public Schools has a diverse student population with approximately 47% Latinx, 9% Black, 6% Mulitracial, 3 % Asian and 35% White and approximately 64% free and reduced lunch.

Effective Date:   August 2026 -  Monday through Friday based on GSRP calendar

JOB TITLE:                     Lead PreK Teacher - GSRP (Great Start Readiness Program)

PAY SCALE:                   $46,535-$67,412 depending on education and experience

LOCATION:                    TBD: West, Heights, HLA, Jefferson 

EMPLOYMENT TERM:  26-27 School Year - 183 days

REPORTS TO:               Director of Early Childhood

OVERVIEW:  Position Overview:

The Lead PreK Teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for preschool-aged children. This role includes developing and implementing a curriculum, managing classroom activities, and ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, dedicated, and able to engage young learners in meaningful educational experiences. Specialized Lead teacher roles may include, Nature based, inclusion/co-taught, Spanish influenced instruction, PreK + and more. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Curriculum and Instruction:

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans based on Creative Curriculum/GOLD Teaching Strategies.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and materials to meet the needs and improve the abilities of all children in the classroom.
  • Continuously assess children's developmental needs and work to individualize instruction to meet those needs.
  • Ensure alignment with the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) standards and objectives.
  • Incorporate Pyramid Model or other Social Emotional curriculum knowledge into daily activities.

Classroom Management:

  • Create a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment.
  • Manage classroom activities, including physical arrangement, schedules, and materials.
  • Implement positive discipline strategies and manage student behavior in a consistent manner.
  • Utilize developmentally appropriate instructional practices.
  • Implementing strategies to support all students with a variety of learning needs 

Student Interaction and Support:

  • Foster positive relationships with students, helping them develop emotional, social, and cognitive skills.
  • Monitor and support the development of all students, providing guidance and encouragement.
  • Maintain open communication with parents regarding their child's progress and development.
  • Support all children and families, emphasizing relationship-based practices.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including the guidelines set forth by LARA and School Safety Legislation - 2005 PA 129-131 and 138.
  • Maintain current certifications, including CPR/First Aid and CPI training.
  • Complete required background checks and fingerprinting.

Professional Development:

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
  • Stay current with early childhood education best practices and research.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to share strategies and resources.
  • Maintain a positive growth mindset and be coachable.
     

QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate the following:   The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  1. Education and Certifications:

Valid Michigan (MI) Teaching Certificate with Early Childhood endorsement 

or

Bachelors in Child Development or Early Childhood 

 

Willingness to obtain credentials may be considered based on current education and experience. 

  1. Preferred Training:
    • Creative Curriculum/GOLD Teaching Strategies training.
    • Knowledge of Pyramid Model or other Social Emotional curriculum.
  2. Skills and Abilities:
    • Ability to work with, relate to, and empathize with students, staff, and parents.
    • Demonstrate mature judgment, moral, and ethical behavior.
    • Ability to carry out instructions and responsibilities effectively.
    • Exhibit a positive outlook, manner, and appearance.
    • Demonstrate punctuality and dependability.
    • Aptitude in technology and its application in the classroom.
    • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
    • Flexibility within the co-teaching model to support all students.
  3. Physical Requirements:
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Must be able to move freely and engage in physical activities with children.
       

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP).
  • Previous experience in early childhood education settings.
  • Experience with children with disabilities or willingness to learn.
  • Experience with inclusion, nature based, or instruction in Spanish speaking- highly encouraged to apply. 

Additional Requirements:

  • Complete FBI fingerprints and additional fingerprinting for LARA.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain. 
     

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to work in a typical office setting, use standard office equipment, read printed materials and a computer screen, and communicate in person or over the telephone.  


COMPENSATION and WORK YEAR:    In accordance with the GSRP Agreement - Salary Range: $46,535 - $67,412 depending on education and experience.
