Lake Station Community Schools is recruiting a Food & Nutrition Services Director.
Position Expectations:
The Food & Nutrition Services Director shall plan, administer, direct, oversee, assess, implement, and evaluate all aspects of the district's school nutrition program; and will partner with others in the school and community to solicit support for the development of the school nutrition-based program; including using management techniques that foster, support, and maintain an efficient and effective program with the priority goal of meeting the best nutritional needs of our students.
Direct, manage, coordinate, and oversee the operations of the school's food service department.
Direct, supervise, and oversee all food service department personnel, needs, and operations.
Ensure compliance with Indiana Department of Education (IDoE), and US Department of Agriculture (USDA) School Nutrition Program (SNP) regulations, policies, guidance, and laws; as well as other local, State and Federal requirements and laws regarding nutrition, sanitation, safety, and record-keeping.
Monitor and ensure health, safety, and sanitation standards in all school kitchens, cafeterias, serving, and food storage areas in cooperation with the school building administration and maintenance/custodial personnel, the Lake County Health Department, and the Indiana Department of Health.
Performance Responsibilities:
Operations
Develop, plan, and analyzes menus for all schools in the district to ensure that all state, federal and district guidelines are met; and distributes menus (e.g.: School website, students, teachers, parent bulletin, kitchen, etc.).
Order products weekly (or more frequently) as necessary to ensure on-time delivery.
Maintains appropriate nutrition and financial records for the child nutrition program in accordance with the Indiana State Board of Accounts (SBoA), IDoE, and federal guidelines including monthly profit and loss reports, monthly inventory of food, commodities, monies on account, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
Schedule nutrition staff, substitutes, and coordinate kitchen resources as needed.
Responsible for handling and accounting for all monies applied to student's meal accounts.
Pay invoices related to food service on a weekly basis.
Prepare and maintain all records for required audits and reviews to meet all Federal and State guidelines.
Review daily participation reports and monitor revenues from daily meals and a la carte sales reports.
Oversee the administration of the district's free and reduced-price meals program according to federal regulations.
Manage and update point-of-sales (POS) system.
Oversee and review school fiscal activity.
Human Resources
Direct, supervise, and evaluate all food service personnel.
Interview prospective new employees and work with the Administration Center to hire and on-board personnel as needed.
Approve pay records for food service personnel on a weekly or biweekly basis.
Schedule and assign tasks to food service kitchen managers and employees as needed.
Handle complaints and personnel issues under the direction of district Human Resources Department.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: (Minimum)
Knowledge of National School Lunch Program (SNP), USDA, and IDoE requirements.
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to prioritize, work under time constraints and be flexible in an environment of multiple tasks and challenging priorities.
High school diploma (or G.E.D. or equivalent)
Three (3) years' experience in relevant school food service operations experience.

Associate's degree or equivalent educational experience, with academic major areas in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer science, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or related field, and one (1) year of relevant food service experience.
- or -
Bachelor's degree with any one of the following:
Equivalent educational experience with academic major in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer science, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or related field; or
State recognized certificate for school nutrition directors; or,
One year of relevant food service experience.
At least eight (8) hours of food safety training within 5 years prior to the start date or completed within 30 calendar days of the starting date, become ServSafe certified, and maintain all required training.
