AVID Teacher / Head Baseball Coach

Primary Purpose
Provide structured academic support and college readiness instruction through the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) framework to ensure students increase GPA, enroll in rigorous coursework, and graduate prepared for postsecondary success, while also leading and managing all aspects of the campus baseball program. Promote academic success, college and career readiness, athletic excellence, leadership development, sportsmanship, and positive student relationships.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate (any core content preferred)
- Valid coaching certification requirements as established by the district and UIL
- CDL certification preferred or willingness to obtain if required
Preferred
- Experience with AVID strategies (WICOR)
- Experience working with at-promise or first-generation college students
- Secondary teaching experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional / AVID Responsibilities
- Implement AVID instructional strategies and methodologies with fidelity.
- Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned to state standards and district curriculum.
- Promote college readiness, critical thinking, organization, collaboration, inquiry, and writing strategies.
- Monitor and support student academic progress and intervention needs.
- Maintain accurate student records, grades, and attendance.
- Participate in AVID site team meetings, professional development, and campus initiatives.
- Serve as an advocate and mentor for students participating in the AVID program.
- Utilize data to drive instruction and improve student performance.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- Maintain a positive, structured, and safe classroom environment.
Coaching Responsibilities
- Serve as Head Baseball Coach and oversee all aspects of the baseball program.
- Organize and supervise practices, games, off-season activities, and athletic events.
- Develop student-athletes in the areas of skill development, discipline, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.
- Ensure compliance with UIL, district, and campus athletic policies and procedures.
- Supervise assistant coaches and coordinate program expectations.
- Monitor student-athlete academic eligibility and behavior.
- Maintain inventory, care, and accountability of athletic equipment and facilities.
- Coordinate transportation, scheduling, and communication related to athletic events.
- Promote positive relationships with parents, community members, and booster organizations.
- Attend required athletic department meetings, clinics, and professional development activities.
- Assist with supervision and operations of the athletic program as assigned.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain professional ethics and confidentiality.
- Demonstrate professionalism in communication, appearance, and conduct.
- Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and district training.
- Support district and campus goals and initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the campus principal or athletic administration

- Knowledge of UIL rules, regulations, and compliance procedures
- Ability to develop student-athletes academically and athletically
- Ability to analyze student data and implement interventions
- Ability to work collaboratively with campus staff, parents, and community stakeholders
Working Conditions
- Standard classroom environment
- Occasional travel for college visits and AVID training
After-school responsibilities for tutorials, events, or student support
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) and Sheldon ISD appraisal guidelines.
*Salary is commensurate with experience
*Minimum Salary $66,00 for fully certified teachers
*Works 187-day Contract
* Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
