The Steamboat Springs School District is seeking a Transportation Bus Mechanic to join our team in Transportation.

PAY RANGE INFORMATION:
Entry range $29.92-$33,91 depending on experience. Based on a maximum of 9 years' experience, See salary schedules here
This is a full-time position, with 233 work days, 8hrs per day. Work schedule Mon-Fri or Tue-Sat depending on district need. CDL training can be provided.
Position Summary: The purpose of this position is to maintain and repair the district school buses and motor equipment to provide safe and reliable transportation and grounds/snow removal equipment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Diagnose problems and repair district automotive equipment to ensure safe operating conditions.
- Establish an efficient and effective system of routine preventive maintenance and care for all school vehicles.
- Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment as required.
- Maintain high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work connected areas and duties.
- Advises Director of Transportation of unsafe maintenance conditions or practices and/or vehicle abuse;
- Performs road calls and on the road repairs as assigned;
- Demonstrate professionalism , handling disagreements and conflicts in a diplomatic manner, and contributing to a positive work/learning environment;
- Identifies and reports any additional maintenance and/or repairs found necessary in conducting assigned repairs and maintenance including repairs and maintenance required to be performed by Technicians with a higher qualification level;
- Drive school bus routes as needed.
- Ability to be on call during weekends.
- Ability to work various shifts/hours.
- Understand and follow CDE school bus operator guidelines.
- Perform other duties as required by the Transportation Manager
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Demonstrates ability to perform a wide variety of tasks requiring and understanding of and proficiency at automotive repairs.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds of equipment.
- Furnishes and maintains an adequate set of hand tools for assigned work duties.
- Dependable and reliable in attendance.
- Ability to obtain CDL drivers license with passenger/school bus endorsements.
- Ability to pass Colorado Commercial Drivers License requirements, including physical exam and random DOT drug testing requirements.
- Ability to obtain CDE annual bus inspection certification.
- Due to the safety related requirements of this work, applicants must have excellent command of English, both orally and in writing;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, and geometry.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract concrete variables. Ability to analyze and use data to supervise the delivery of instruction and the school improvement process.
Technology Skills: Proficient use of technology which includes: basic operations and concepts, word processing, spread sheets, internet usage, critical evaluation of information, data analysis, email, integration of technology.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in education. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to copy, coordinate, instruct, evaluate and negotiate. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to discipline students consistent with district procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Physical Demands: Must be able to drive bus during all weather conditions, sitting for longer periods of time whicl driving. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee is continuously required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
