QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Washington State administrative certification, or the ability to obtain
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Preferred experience as a building administrator and central district level leadership
  • Proven success improving student achievement and instructional systems
  • Experience leading adult learning, coaching leaders, and managing complex systems
  • Ability to think systemically and strategically, aligning vision, priorities, structures, and resources into a coherent instructional system
  • Deep understanding of effective Tier l instruction grounded in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and evidence-based instructional practices that ensure access, engagement, and rigor for all learners
  • Ability to apply implementation science, manage complex change, and adjust strategies based on data and feedback
  • Demonstrated ability to build adult capacity through coaching, feedback, and facilitation of collaborative learning
  • Commitment to and skill in advancing equitable outcomes through inclusive and culturally responsive practices
  • Ability to interpret and use multiple data sources including outcome, progress, and MTSS fidelity measures to guide decision-making, monitor implementation, and drive continuous improvement across a multi-tiered system
  • Ability to communicate clearly, build trust, and generate shared ownership for goals and sustained implementation
  • Ability to support the district's vision of sustaining a coherent, inclusive, and high-impact instructional system where every student experiences belonging and rigorous learning, every educator is supported and developed, and every school aligns to a shared vision of excellence

GENERAL FUNCTIONS: The Chief Academic Officer serves as the district's lead instructional strategist and a key member of the Superintendent's Cabinet. This role is responsible for vision, coherence, and execution of the district's PreK-l2 teaching and learning system, ensuring alignment to the Strategic Plan and a relentless focus on student belonging, engagement, and achievement. This position works closely with the Director of Special Programs.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The contract for this position includes 260 days of service (July 1 through June 30). Current salary range for the 2025-2026 school year is $186,976 - $200,293. Employee is eligible to receive sick and personal leave days. Healthcare coverage is through SEBB. A portion of the monthly premium is offset by an employer contribution. Mandatory dental, vision, basic long-term disability, and basic life and accidental death and dismemberment premiums are paid by the district. Employee paid options include: Flexible Spending Arrangement; Dependent Care Assistance Program; and additional long-term disability, accidental death and dismemberment, and life insurance. If employed less than full time (1.0 FTE), days and salary are pro-rated based on FTE.
