Long-term Substitute, 5th Grade Teacher, Fall of 2026
Description
The Adel DeSoto Minburn Community School District is seeking applicants interested in fulfilling a long-term substitute position for a fifth-grade math and science teacher from the first week in September until Thanksgiving of 2026.
DeSoto Intermediate is a progressive fifth and sixth grade building with small class sizes and an energetic, collaborative staff. DeSoto Intermediate educates approximately 350 students and is located directly west of Waukee on the edge of the Des Moines metropolitan area.
The ideal candidate would have experience teaching math and science in whole and small groups, use best practices in math instruction, and have experience with technology integration within the classroom. Applicants will embrace and promote the mission of our school and the ADM district, must be highly collaborative, demonstrate passion for education, and be humble. The ADM staff uses the Professional Learning Community model.
Requirements:
- Valid Teacher License K-6 Endorsement

- Knowledge of educational practices in a classroom including current research and evidence-based instructional practices
- Commitment to differentiated instruction
- Highly collaborative working with general education teachers both in and outside the grade level, interventionists and parents
- Strong communication skills
- Knowledge of using technology to enhance learning
