Salisbury Elementary School

Salisbury Township School District seeks an engaging, student-centered Elementary Music Teacher to join our instructional team. The ideal candidate will create a positive music classroom where students build musical skill, confidence, creativity, and appreciation for the arts. This teacher will provide general music instruction to elementary students, support school performances, and work with staff to strengthen the role of music in the school community.  Music Education (PK-12) Instructional I certificate from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid and current Pennsylvania professional certificate commensurate with assignment and Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education in an academic field appropriate to the assignment required.  In addition, undergraduate and/or graduate course work should include work in learning theory, human relations, child development, group dynamics, student assessment, test development and interpretation, teaching of reading, and diagnosis of need for learning support, and use of technology in the classroom.  Knowledge of appropriate content area and ability to implement state-of-the-art learning strategies encompassing latest pedagogical research and practice.  Belief system commensurate with that of the Salisbury Township School District including but not limited to the quality principles of continuous improvement and student/parent focus.

JOB GOAL:
To lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional and psychological growth and assist in students' maturation as mature, able, sensitive and responsible adults, possessing consistently high self standards.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary, benefits, and other terms and conditions as established and contractually agreed upon in the negotiated Agreement between the Salisbury Education Association and the Board of Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning, appropriate to the maturity and interests of students and provides for alternatives to learning styles.
  2. Endeavors at all times to maintain courteous bearing and an impartial attitude toward all students and maintains dignity in the classroom.  In all professional and personal relations, follows a course of conduct consistent with the PA Code of Professional Practice and Conduct for Educators (attached).
  3. Organizes, plans and implements a program of student that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.  Supportive services and/or training for children with special needs will be provided by the district.
  4. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, and in harmony with the student's and strategic planning goals, established clear communicated objectives and procedures for all lessons, units, and projects.  Course expectations are communicated to students and are available to parents.
  5. Employs a variety of instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  6. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required by policy and procedure.
  7. Develops and administers necessary pre and post assessments to determine needs and achievements.  Modified instruction accordingly and provides progress reports as required.
  8. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for educationally related purposes.
  9. Implements all Board of Education policies; adheres to rules governing student life and conduct; develops within the classroom reasonable rules and procedures; encourages students to establish and maintain appropriate standards of behavior; and maintains order in a fair and just manner.
  10. Attends faculty meetings and other appropriate professional activities unless excused by principal (for example:  teacher/parent meetings and conferences, inservice programs, departmental/grade level meetings, etc.).
  11. Accepts voluntarily a share of responsibility for co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
  12. Teachers are expected to participate in professional growth activities through an ongoing program of reading workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning as may be funded by the District.
  13. Utilizes current educational technologies, within the framework of the curriculum, and implements technology strategies effectively in the classroom.
  14. Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
  15. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  16. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials and facilities.
  17. Cooperates with health and administrative professionals in maintaining the health and well being of students.
  18. Adheres to guidelines described in building faculty handbooks.
  19. Assumes other appropriate duties as customarily performed by teachers when assigned by the Administration.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that
must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential
functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to

employee frequently is required to stand, stoop and walk.  The employee
must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  The employee must
be able to manage courteous communications with others, including
those who are upset or angry, both via the telephone, in writing and in
person.

SENSORY ABILITIES:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required
to sit, write, read, type, talk, communicate, comprehend and hear.  The
employee frequently is required to use hands, fingers, arms and legs to
handle or feel and reach, including repetitive motions with all limbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  This 
employee must be available during normal business hours, and may be
required, on occasion, to attend some meetings and/or events in the
evening or during the weekend.  The work environment characteristics
described here are representative of those an employee encounters while
performing the essential functions of this position.
