Location: Newton Community School District
Reports to: Building Principal
Contract: 220-day contract
Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL:
JOB SUMMARY:
Assists the principal in providing leadership and supervision in administering the educational program of an elementary school to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law. Provide leadership in program development and improvement, as well as in professional staff development.
QUALIFICATIONS CERTIFICATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Master's degree in educational administration.
- Valid Iowa Administrator License with PK-12 Principal / PK-12 Special Education Supervisor and Evaluator endorsements
- A minimum of three (3) years successful experience in teaching and/or school administration

- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and priorities.

- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive school culture with high expectations for students and staff.
- Ability to support, coach, and encourage staff growth and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated empathy, active listening, and responsiveness to students, families, and colleagues
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supports the principal and building leadership team in the implementation of instructional programs and practices.
- Assists with monitoring the implementation of district curriculum, instructional models, and assessments.
- Supervises, coaches, and evaluates licensed and classified staff as assigned, supporting professional growth and accountability.
- Assists with planning and delivering professional development aligned to school improvement goals.
- Supports the coordination of student services, interventions, and accommodations to meet diverse student needs.
- Assists the principal with daily school operations to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment.
- Supports hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and supervision of classified and hourly staff as assigned.
- Assists in the development and management of the master schedule to support instructional priorities.
- Conducts regular walkthroughs of facilities and communicates maintenance or safety concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Assists with the implementation and enforcement of the student handbook and school procedures.
- Supports compliance with special education, English Learner programming, Section 504 plans, and other required student services.
- Assists with student discipline, attendance, and behavior interventions in alignment with district policies.
- Communicate with parents, guardians, and staff regarding student learning, behavior, and support needs.
- Supports positive school–family–community relationships through regular communication and collaboration.
- Assists in engaging families and community members in school activities and initiatives that support student success.
- Represents the school at events and meetings as assigned.
- Maintains consistent and dependable attendance to support school operations and student needs.
- Models punctuality, professionalism, and reliability. Assists with coverage and supervision during peak periods, events, or staff absences.
- Promotes a positive school climate where students and staff feel valued, respected, and supported.
- Encourages collaboration among staff and contributes to a shared sense of responsibility for student success.
