Job Summary:
The Director of Information Technology Operations will provide leadership and assume management responsibilities for the direction, coordination, integration, and implementation of technology to meet district and school-based initiatives. The Director is responsible for planning, purchasing, installing, and maintaining physical technology systems while at all times in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and requirements. The director has operational oversight of the Help Desk, Field Technician, Phone, Audio/Visual, Structured Wiring, and Network teams. Responsibilities range from strategic and long-term planning and implementation of system-wide technology solutions to providing training, support, and day-to-day operational leadership. The candidate should be an innovative thinker and leader who challenges those around them to think more critically and inspires the team to succeed.
 
Essential Duties:

  • Directly supervises the End User Support Coordinator (overseeing the help desk and field technician teams), the Communications Coordinator (overseeing the phone, audio/visual and structured wiring teams), and the Network Coordinator (overseeing networking and wireless). Responsibilities include hiring recommendations, interviewing, scheduling, performance evaluations, coaching, and professional development.
  • Provides oversight and direction to the End User Support Coordinator in managing day-to-day help desk operations and field technician activities, ensuring timely response and resolution of technology support requests and that service level standards are consistently met across all schools and departments.
  • Provides oversight and direction to the Communications Coordinator in managing district-wide phone systems, intercoms, telecommunications infrastructure, Audio/Visual equipment, and communication systems across all district facilities.
  • Provides oversight and direction to the Network Coordinator in managing the district's network infrastructure, including switching, routing, wireless networking, and structured cabling. Ensures the network environment is reliable, secure, and optimally configured to support instructional and administrative operations.
  • Maintains working knowledge of and provides strategic oversight for the district's network environment, including Aruba switching and wireless infrastructure and Cisco Nexus switching platforms, to ensure proper configuration, performance, and availability across all sites.
  • Supervises permissions and individual access to technology applications and services for the purpose of ensuring proper access to technology systems by staff, students, parents, and others consistent with district operating guidelines and regulations.
  • Communicates technology-related activities, project status, and operational updates in a timely manner to all stakeholders, including the Executive Director of Technology, school administrators, and district leadership.
  • Oversees the installation of technology systems and tools (e.g. hardware, software, systems, wiring, specialized applications and tools) for the purpose of ensuring the safe, timely, and efficient installation of technology equipment and services.
  • Oversees the maintenance of technology equipment and systems (e.g. telephone systems, intercoms, surveillance cameras, network infrastructure, end-user devices, and applications) for the purpose of ensuring that systems are functioning properly and effectively in support of district administrative and educational operations.
  • Manages procurement, inventory, and surplus of technology equipment, systems, and related services for the purpose of ensuring that all technology purchases are consistent with the district's technology objectives and that equipment is properly inventoried or surplused consistent with local, district, and state regulations.
  • Monitors technology budget and expenditures for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate and expenses are within budget limits; assists in developing and managing departmental budgets.
  • Supports the implementation of operational and instructional technology initiatives by assisting with delivery, providing support and oversight, and ensuring successful adoption across the district.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of the technology continuity framework, disaster recovery plans, and business continuity procedures.
  • Develops and enforces technology standards, policies, and procedures to ensure consistency, security, and compliance across all teams and district facilities.
  • Assists in researching and evaluating emerging technologies, vendors, and solutions; tests technology applications, tools, and programs to provide feedback for administrative decision-making.
  • Prepares reports, documentation, and communications related to technology operations, project status, staffing, and budget for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serves as a member of the HCS Technology leadership team and represents the operations division in district planning and decision-making.

 
Other Duties
Performs other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director of Technology.
 
Job Specifications
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the District's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
 
Education, Experience and Skills Required

  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent experience; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in a related IT field, with demonstrated progression of responsibility.
  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory or management experience, preferably overseeing multiple technical teams or coordinators.
  • Experience managing or overseeing end user support, help desk operations, field technical support, telecommunications, A/V systems, structured cabling, and/or network infrastructure preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise network infrastructure, including hands-on experience with Aruba switching and wireless platforms and Cisco Nexus switching environments.
  • Familiarity with network management concepts including VLANs, routing protocols, enterprise wireless architecture, and network monitoring tools.
  • Strong knowledge of end-user device management, telecommunications systems, and low-voltage/structured wiring standards (BICSI preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop technical staff and coordinators across multiple functional teams.
  • Strong project management skills with experience overseeing technology deployments, infrastructure projects, and multi-site initiatives.
  • Experience with technology procurement, inventory management, and budget oversight.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, data privacy regulations (FERPA, CIPA), and compliance requirements applicable to K-12 environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g. CompTIA Network+, BICSI RCDD, Aruba Certified, Cisco CCNA/CCNP, or equivalent) are a plus.

  • Manual dexterity for the purpose of using a telephone and data entry;
  • Read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids;
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; and
  • Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.
