Substitute School Nurse

On-Call, As Needed | Non-Exempt
Salary: $140 Daily
Reports to: Building Principal

Apache Junction Unified School District is seeking compassionate, student-centered Substitute School Nurses who believe deeply in our Kids First mission. What You'll Support
• Champion AJUSD's Kids First mission through every interaction with students, families, and staff.
• Provide timely assessment and appropriate care for student and staff injuries, illnesses, and medical concerns.
• Deliver basic first aid and emergency response with professionalism and composure.
• Administer prescribed medications (oral, subcutaneous, or intramuscular) and accurately document dosage, time, and student response.
• Monitor for and report adverse reactions to medication or treatment to the principal and parent/guardian.
• Conduct routine health screenings, including vision, hearing, and lice checks, in alignment with district protocols.
• Maintain sterile equipment, clean workspaces, and proper handling of medical supplies.
• Keep accurate, confidential health records, including immunizations, screenings, and medical histories.
• Communicate clearly, compassionately, and professionally with students, families, and staff regarding health needs and next steps.
• Support a safe, caring, and student-centered environment throughout the school day.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support school health operations.
What You Bring
• Current RN, LPN, or EMT license
• Strong clinical judgment and the ability to assess and respond to medical needs
• Experience working with children or in a school, pediatric, or community health setting (preferred)
• Ability to remain calm, compassionate, and professional in urgent or high-stress situations
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with students, families, and staff
• Commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, and ethical practice
• Reliability, flexibility, and a willingness to support multiple school sites as needed

Physical & Work Environment Expectations
This role requires regular communication, movement around campus, and the ability to stand, walk, bend, sit, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. The work environment is active and fast-paced, with moderate noise levels. Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed.
