Description

Job Title: Paraprofessionals (Full-time and Part-time)

Reports to: Building Principal and Supervisor of Special Education or Director of Early Childhood Education

Job Purpose: To assist special education or preschool student(s) in the classroom providing the appropriate support, including behavior, academics, and daily living skills, as detailed in the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP) (if special education). Assist with data collection and student supervision to create and maintain a learning environment conducive to the student's learning needs.

Qualifications-Required
High School Diploma or equivalent

Ability to work well with school age students

Ability to read and write and speak English clearly and accurately

Ability to communicate effectively with both students and staff

Ability to use a computer for required district functions and communication

Ability to be cooperative and follow directions of classroom teacher

Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions

Ability to support individual students and/or small groups of students

Ability to recognize and provide support for the needs of diverse students

Ability to organize and handle multiple tasks

Ability to maintain student confidentiality

Ability to practice situational awareness

Must be able to work with children who have moderate to severe special needs

Must be able to pass the NJ Criminal History Review

Must be able to pass the post-offer physical examination

Must be able to submit the Sexual Misconduct/Child Abuse Disclosure Form


Qualifications-Desired
1-2 years of experience working with moderate to severe special needs students

Associate's Degree

NJ Substitute Certification

Duties/Responsibilities
Establishes and maintains a positive rapport with the student(s), classroom teacher, and other classroom staff

Maintains a working knowledge of student(s) by reviewing student IEPs and staying current with student interests, strengths, and weaknesses through collaboration with teacher and/or CST case manager

Maintains the safety of the student(s) by providing a safe, organized environment for effective and independent learning

Provides student(s) with supportive and supplemental instructional assistance as designed by the teacher

Accompanies and transitions student(s) to appropriate areas outside of the classroom, including, but not limited to, cafeteria, lavatories, and additional educational settings and communicates information regarding student's successes and challenges

Reviews and reinforces skills and concepts taught by the classroom teacher

Sets up and maintains special classroom equipment and learning centers under the direction of the classroom teacher

Implements classroom behavioral management strategies and collects data on individual student behavior plans

Assists students of varying ages, when necessary, with personal and hygienic care, including diaper changing, toileting and/or feeding

Participate in district scheduled professional development, including online trainings

Support and supervise student(s) during arrival and dismissal

All other duties as assigned by building principal and/or supervisor

Working Conditions
10 Month Position

Full Time Salary Range of $26,512 - $35,364 as per EHTEA contract

Part Time (29.5 hrs/week) Salary Range of $23,346 - $29,807 as per EHTEA contract

Health Benefits apply to full-time but not part-time

Ability to lift at least 50 lbs

Ability to reach above and below the waist

Ability to bend knees, stoop, and/or squat to interact with students

Ability to stand for long periods of time

Ability to transition independently from seated to standing positions

Ability to manipulate classroom materials and student adaptive devices

Ability to perform to Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) protocols

Ability to ensure student safety, both indoors and outdoors, and intervene during escalating situations
