We offer a dual language immersion program in Spanish in grades K-8. Special Education Teacher - ASD
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teacher is responsible for supporting students with Autism at the elementary level. Develop lesson plans and provide direct and small group instruction. Responsible for lead teacher duties including supervising instructional assistant staff. Review and ensure instruction aligns with student IEP goals and objectives. Work with district and ISD providers to ensure student needs are met across related services. Teacher may assist with activities of daily living and positive behavior support plans.
This teacher role may include 3-4 weeks of ESY (Extended School Year) programming during summer break between June and August.
QUALIFICATIONS: The individual selected for this position will be the one who offers the best combination of training, experience and qualifications in accordance with the following:
- Bachelor's Degree from an approved college or university.
- Valid, K-12 Special Education Certification from the State of Michigan with a SV (Autism Spectrum Disorder) endorsement preferred.
- Must have an SE, SM or SA endorsement, and be willing to work towards an SV (Autism Spectrum Disorder) endorsement. This would include completing a minimum of six semester credit hours per year to obtain ASD certification/endorsement.
- Ability to provide extended school year services to students as per IEP.
- Experience using ASL desirable.
- CPI training required. Can be provided after hire date.
- Shows evidence of successful experience as a Special Education teacher.
- Ability to work well with students, staff and parents.
- Ability to demonstrate mature judgment and moral and ethical behavior.
- Ability to project a positive outlook, manner and appearance.
- Regular, reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Must meet the requirements of School Safety Legislation – Complete FBI fingerprints required.
COMPENSATION and WORK YEAR: In accordance with the Board of Education/HEA Contract.
