Alternative Program Teacher grades 9-12
Description
Medomak Valley High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Alternative Education Teacher for students in grades 9-12 in mathematics and science. This position is responsible for providing engaging and supportive instruction to students who are struggling in traditional high school settings or are at risk of dropping out. The Alternative Education teacher collaborates with the school counselors, administrators, and parents to address students' individual academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and attendance needs. The program aims to re-engage students and provide them with the skills and support necessary to succeed academically, emotionally, and socially, and ultimately earn a high school diploma. Certification in one area is required for this position and a strong foundation in mathematics or science is preferred as this position is paired with a second alternative instructor who holds a strong foundation in English or social studies.
Responsibilities
- Provide standards-referenced instruction in a smaller classroom setting, focusing on core academic subjects and electives, employing various instructional methods and materials to meet diverse learning styles and needs.
- Create a positive, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation, builds self-esteem, and promotes social-emotional learning.
- Monitor student progress, evaluate student learning, and provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents.
