Job Title:  Behavior Paraprofessional

Payment Rate:  $17.34 per hour 

Evaluation & Benefits: In accordance with the USD 443 Classified Handbook

FLSA Status:

Reports To:Building Administrator and Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Ed

 

PURPOSE: The Behavioral Paraprofessional provides school-based interventions and support to students that exhibit unregulated emotions or unsafe behavior.  The primary goal is to support the implementation of behavior intervention plans (BIPs), foster emotional regulation, and help students bridge the gap between their behavioral challenges and academic success.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma and 48 hours college credit or Para Pro Assessment
  • At least one year of experience in working with students or in a school setting is preferred

  • Knowledge of student's needs, growth, and development.
  • Knowledge of de-escalation skills and de-escalation behaviors.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Utilize and support implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP)
  • Assists students in de-escalation techniques
  • Develop relationships with students and relate well to multiple ages of students
  • Assist students in navigating transitions, managing frustrations, and staying engaged in the general education classroom
  • Utilize approved crisis intervention techniques to safely de-escalate challenging behaviors and support a safe learning environment for all students
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions and workshops as required.
  • Support in the collection and documentation of Behavior Intervention Data
  • Review physical surroundings for safety, especially in crises situations.
  • Teach and model social emotional skills, such as self-advocacy, conflict resolution and coping strategies
  • Communicate regularly with teachers, administrators and district SEL support staff to ensure a consistent approach across all buildings
  • -Maintain confidentiality.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle, or feel and talk and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
  • The work environment is in a classroom setting
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
