Position Title: School Counselor (College and Career)
Compensation: Salary Certified $74,500. Comprehensive Benefits: Health (Medical, Vision, Dental), Short Term Disability, AAE, & Pension
The High School Counselor (College and Career) provides academic, college, and career counseling to students in grades 9–12 as they navigate postsecondary pathways. This role supports academic planning, leads the college application process, promotes career readiness, and offers both individual and group advising. The counselor also manages related programs, reports data, and collaborates with college admissions and workforce partners, while guiding students and families on financial aid, scholarships, and admissions trends.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in School Counseling or a related field from an accredited college or university
- New Jersey/New York State Certification for School Counselor
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
- Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning charter school-related matters.
Prior to employment, the following must be addressed:
- Required to complete a criminal history background check to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person's offense in accordance with EDN Section 2854 (a-2).
- Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with EDN Section 2854 (a-2).
- Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test.
- A valid driver's license is preferred.
- Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the CEO finds appropriate and acceptable.

Performance Responsibilities:
The College and Career Counselor shall:
- Pursue the vision and execute the mission of iLearn Schools Inc.
- Support and promote board and administrative initiatives and decisions.
- Possess an understanding of the charter school renewal process and assist with the process as needed.
- Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the charter school.
- Maintain professional competence and continuous improvement through professional growth.
- Adhere to federal statutes and regulations, New Jersey school law, New Jersey Department of Education rules and regulations, iLearn Schools Inc. policies, procedures, and contractual obligations.
- Provides academic counseling, college and career advising, and college application support to students through individual meetings and group sessions
- Assists with the development of the master schedule and individual student schedules to ensure alignment with academic requirements and postsecondary goals.
- Guide and support students in developing realistic and aspirational postsecondary plans
- Host informational sessions for students and parents (e.g., financial aid nights, college planning workshops)
- Help students research and apply for scholarships and financial aid, including FAFSA/HESAA
- Maintain relationships with college admissions representatives; schedule and host campus visits
- Track student applications, decisions, scholarships, and matriculation outcomes
- Provide students with opportunities for career exploration, personality/interest assessments, and goal setting
- Promote access to AP, Dual Enrollment, SAT/ACT Prep, CTE, internship opportunities ect.
- Maintain consistent communication with students and families
- Collects and manages data related to college and career counseling and reports findings to the administrative team for planning and evaluation purposes.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to remain current with best practices in counseling and admissions
- Attend school-sponsored events as requested/contracted.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of certification and expertise
Reports to: School Director
Supervise: Students
Terms of Employment: Ten-month employee
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with New Jersey state law (Title 18A) and the provisions of the iLearn Schools policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
