Job Description 

Job Title: Bus Washer and Detailer FLSA Status: Nonexempt 
Reports To: Director of Transportation Hours: Varies based on assigned routes 
Work Location: School  Wage: Hourly rate  
Work Schedule: 180 days  
Position Summary 
The Bus Washer and Detailer is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall appearance of all district vehicles. This position plays a key role in ensuring buses are safe, presentable, and ready for daily student transportation by performing routine washing, interior cleaning, and basic detailing tasks. 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities 
  • Remove trash, debris, and spills from buses after routes 
  • Sweep, mop, and disinfect high-touch surfaces to maintain health and safety standards 
  • Perform periodic deep-cleaning and detailing of buses (e.g., stain removal, upholstery care) 
  • Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies; report needed repairs or shortages 
  • Assist with fueling buses if needed (based on district procedures) 
  • Identify and report any damage, maintenance concerns, or safety issues to supervisors 
  • Ensure compliance with district safety procedures and environmental regulations 
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area (bus garage/lot) 
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Attend in-service meetings and training courses as assigned.
  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.  
Education/Experience Requirements 
  • Must have high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • History of excellent work attendance.
  • Previous experience in vehicle cleaning, detailing, or custodial work preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain, if applicable). 
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and tools safely. 
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and proper usage.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise good judgment.
  • Perform duties in a professional and personable manner. 
Other/Physical Requirements 
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods 
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) 
  • Ability to climb bus steps and work in confined spaces
  • Ability to occasionally lift objects of 50 pounds or more. 
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Applicants must be able to pass a Safe Hiring Solutions background check.
