Re-1 Valley School District is seeking a dependable, organized, and student-focused Transportation Coordinator to oversee the daily operation of the district transportation department. This position is responsible for coordinating safe, efficient, and reliable transportation services for students while ensuring compliance with Colorado Department of Education transportation regulations and district expectations.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills while maintaining a commitment to student safety and positive community relationships. The successful candidate must be a strong collaborative partner with other departments, with a customer service approach to serve students and staff.

SALARY RANGE & CATEGORY: $24.61/hour to $31.28/hour (depending on experience) on Classified Hourly Salary Schedule
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
WORK CALENDAR: 260 days (Monday - Friday)

Position Summary:
The Transportation Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, and supporting the operation of the district transportation department. This position ensures safe and efficient transportation services for students and staff while maintaining compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and district procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Transportation Operations
- Coordinate daily transportation operations and bus routes
- Develop and maintain efficient student transportation schedules
- Coordinate activity trips, field trips, and extracurricular transportation needs
- Respond to route changes, emergencies, and transportation concerns
- Assist with substitute driver coordination and scheduling
Supervision & Leadership
- Supervise and support bus drivers and transportation personnel
- Conduct thorough evaluations that incorporate regular feedback to all supervisees
- Assist with driver training, onboarding, and compliance requirements
- Promote positive communication and professionalism within the department
- Conduct meetings and communicate operational expectations clearly
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Colorado Department of Education transportation regulations
- Maintain transportation records, driver files, inspections, and required reporting
- Monitor student transportation safety procedures and expectations
- Assist with accident reporting, investigations, and emergency procedures
- Promote safe operation of district vehicles and equipment
Vehicle & Maintenance Coordination
- Coordinate vehicle inspections, maintenance schedules, and repairs
- Communicate with maintenance personnel regarding transportation fleet needs
- Monitor transportation equipment and operational readiness
- Assist with budgeting and inventory related to transportation operations
Communication & Customer Service
- Communicate effectively with administrators, families, staff, and community members
- Address transportation questions, concerns, and complaints professionally
- Work collaboratively with school administrators regarding student transportation needs
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with weather-related transportation decisions and emergency operations
- Attend required trainings and state transportation meetings as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of transportation operations and safety procedures
- Ability to supervise and coordinate staff effectively
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to changing situations
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
- Knowledge of student management and confidentiality expectations
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate degree or additional technical training preferred
- Previous transportation, logistics, or supervisory experience preferred
- School transportation experience preferred
Licenses & Certifications:
- Valid Colorado driver's license required
- CDL with school bus endorsement preferred or the ability to obtain
- Ability to complete required Colorado school transportation training and certifications
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift as needed
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to operate district vehicles and transportation equipment
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly
Ability to respond to transportation emergencies and operational needs

Caliche Elementary and Caliche Jr/Sr High School, located outside Iliff, CO, are a part of RE-1 Valley School District.
