OPEN POSITION

Job Title: Superintendent/Principal – Alpine Public School District (New Jersey)

The Alpine Board of Education invites applications from highly qualified, innovative, and collaborative educational leaders for the position of Superintendent/Principal. The Board seeks a dynamic individual with a proven record of academic excellence, strong leadership, and the ability to effectively manage a high-performing, small school district while fostering a supportive and inclusive school culture.

District Overview

The Alpine Public School District is a K–8 district serving approximately 160 students in a single-school setting. Located in Bergen County, New Jersey, the district is known for its strong academic performance, small class sizes, and commitment to personalized learning. With a dedicated faculty and supportive community, Alpine Public School provides a rigorous and nurturing educational environment that emphasizes student achievement, character development, and global awareness.

Anticipated Start Date: On or about August 1, 2026

Compensation & Contract

The Board anticipates offering a competitive salary in the range of $175,000 to $195,000 (pending negotiations), commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

The initial appointment will be for a multi-year contract, as authorized by New Jersey statute.

The Alpine Public School District participates in the Private Health Benefits Program (Cigna) for medical benefits. Employees will become eligible for FMLA/NJFLA in accordance with state and federal requirements.

Position Summary

The Superintendent/Principal serves as the chief executive officer and instructional leader of the district and school, responsible for implementing Board policy, overseeing all district and school operations, and ensuring high levels of student achievement. This dual-role position requires exceptional leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to engage effectively with students, staff, families, and the community.

Qualifications

  • Valid New Jersey School Administrator Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility (CE) required
  • Prior experience as a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or Principal preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of administrative experience required
  • Teaching experience required
  • Experience in a small district or dual-role leadership position preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of New Jersey school law, finance, and accountability systems required
  • Strong communication, organizational, and technology skills

Key Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Provide visionary leadership to sustain and enhance academic excellence and student outcomes
  • Oversee all instructional programs, curriculum development, and assessment practices
  • Manage district finances, including budget development, fiscal oversight, and long-term planning
  • Ensure compliance with all New Jersey statutes, administrative codes, and regulations
  • Supervise, support, and evaluate staff to promote professional growth and accountability
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and student-centered school climate
  • Maintain transparent and effective communication with the Board of Education and community stakeholders
  • Build and strengthen relationships with families and community partners
  • Oversee school operations, including personnel, facilities, safety, and security
  • Promote innovation and continuous improvement in teaching and learning

Evaluation of Performance

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with New Jersey Administrative Code and Board of Education policy.

Terms of Employment

Twelve (12)-month contract. Salary and benefits as determined by the Board of Education and any applicable agreements. 

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprinting in accordance with New Jersey law.
