SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization in the United States that focuses on preparing students for careers in skilled trades, technical fields, and service occupations. It works primarily with middle school, high school, and college/postsecondary students who are enrolled in career and technical education (CTE) programs.
At its core, SkillsUSA blends classroom learning with real-world workplace expectations. It partners with industry leaders to ensure students are learning skills that employers actually need right now—not outdated theory.
What SkillsUSA does & Essential functions:
Students join through their school's chapter and can participate in:
- Hands-on competitions (called "championships") in areas like welding, automotive repair, healthcare, IT, construction, culinary arts, and more
- Leadership development programs that build communication, teamwork, and professionalism
- Conferences and events at the state and national level
- Community service projects
The organization is built around a framework of personal, workplace, and technical skills—things like integrity, work ethic, adaptability, and accountability.
Qualifications:
Valid Iowa teaching license
