Education Transition and Career Advocate (ETCA) - One-year-only Contract - Internal Applicants Only
Description
The ETCA position will be assigned to the Decker Lake Youth Center (DLYC) and work with eligible Youth in Care (YIC) students at the facility. DLYC students operate under the care, guidance and programming of Juvenile Justice Youth Services staff working in collaboration with a team of educators. Hours of operation are during school hours and in accordance with the Granite School District calendar.

Job Summary
The Education Transition and Career Advocate (ETCA) coordinates and facilitates targeted, individualized, student transition plans with Juvenile Justice Service (JSS), students, families, educational providers, and employers. Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are required and are essential functions of this position.
Essential Functions
- Support the development of customized exit/transition plans with students as they enter juvenile custody via ongoing coordinated processes with Case Management, families, and other relevant parties throughout the youths' custodial status.
- Participate in Child and Family Team Meetings (CFTM) with the youth and other team members.
- Collaborate with school personnel in identifying, obtaining and communicating key points of information to JJS staff involved within the scope of the student's care
- Assist post high school students with college application, enrollment oversight and any corresponding supportive services as identified
- Support students in identifying interests, establishing goals, and completing the customized exit plan established for each student through their case worker.
- Coordinate necessary transition efforts with professionals and specialists during the youth's incarceration, and pertinent trial periods
- Conduct STAR 360, TABE, SAT, ACT and/or student job training and preparation as needed.
- Facilitate unique educational opportunities from external sources such as universities, Utah Film Center, etc.
- Assist professional staff in with student job training and preparation as needed.
- Gather detailed information about each student, summarizing and reporting the required data to the LEA, JJS site and USOE annually.

Required Education and Qualifications
One year of college required
Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
Required Prior Experience
Experience working the adolescents
Experience working with school systems
Working experience with Division of Juvenile Justice Services preferred
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Must be able to use Google platform products including forms, meet, sheets and slides
- Must be able to communicate clearly and calmly and appropriately handle confidential matters
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills
- Must be able to compile data reports within expected time frames
- Must be team-oriented and capable of working professionally with a diverse group of professionals
Assigned Decision Making
Makes decisions concerning the best manner with which to coordinate student information, support and the accomplishment of job-related tasks. Must engage with multiple stakeholder groups including school and agency personnel involving the transfer of sensitive information. Decisions must be made with facility safety as well as school and agency policy parameters being met.
Interactions with Others
Interacts professionally and positively with school personnel, facility staff, case managers, administration, and community liaisons.
Supervisory Responsibility
Supervises student caseloads and the collection of portfolio artifacts.

Working Environment
Work setting is designated at a specific facility under the operation of an agency partner. Travel to administrative office and community locations is expected from time-to-time. The environment is built upon strategic collaboration within a fast-paced, interactive environment that can be stressful or disruptive at times.
