Monroe Public Schools is seeking a motivated and student-centered Varsity Cheer Coach to lead the Monroe High School cheer program. This position includes oversight of both sideline and competitive cheer activities and is responsible for building a positive, disciplined, and competitive program that promotes school spirit, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic success.
Qualifications
- Previous coaching experience in cheerleading or a related sport preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of cheerleading fundamentals, conditioning, routines, game-day performance, and competitive cheer preparation.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to motivate and develop student-athletes while fostering teamwork, accountability, and school pride.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain appropriate sportsmanship, professionalism, and positive conduct among athletes, staff, and spectators.
- Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, staff, parents, and community members.
- Willingness to support and enforce all Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) rules, district policies, and athletic department expectations.
- Commitment to promoting academic achievement and positive behavior among student-athletes.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Organize, supervise, and direct all aspects of the varsity cheer program, including sideline and competitive cheer activities.
- Plan and conduct practices, conditioning sessions, performances, and competitions.
- Develop routines and skill progression appropriate for student-athlete growth and safety.
- Coordinate with athletic department staff regarding schedules, transportation, uniforms, equipment, and event logistics.
- Promote positive relationships and communication with athletes, parents, staff, and the community.
- Maintain high expectations for student conduct, attendance, academic achievement, and sportsmanship.
- Ensure compliance with all district, conference, and MHSAA rules and regulations.
- Assist in developing and maintaining a consistent cheer program culture aligned with district expectations.
- Attend required meetings, competitions, school events, and athletic functions.
- Maintain and inventory uniforms, equipment, and program materials.
Additional Information
- Position is contingent upon Board approval.
- Compensation based on the applicable extracurricular salary schedule.
- Evening and weekend responsibilities are required.
