TITLE: Assistant Junior High Football Coach
Department: Activities

STIPEND: $1,900
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Junior High Assistant Coach supports the head coach in developing student-athletes both athletically and personally. This role focuses on teaching fundamental skills, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship, and helping create a positive, structured environment for middle school athletes. The JH Football season runs from August-September.

Reports to the Activities Director

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist the head coach in planning and conducting practices, drills, and game strategies
- Teach and reinforce fundamental skills appropriate to the sport and age group
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and team activities
- Promote good sportsmanship, discipline, and respect among players
- Help with game-day preparation, including equipment setup and breakdown
- Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to athletes
- Ensure a safe environment by following school and district policies
- Communicate effectively with the head coach, players, parents, and school staff
- Support academic accountability and positive behavior expectations for athletes
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required
Undergraduate degree preferred
EXPERIENCE:
Prior playing or coaching experience in football preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to work well with middle school-aged students
- Basic knowledge of rules, techniques, and strategies of the sport
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Patience and ability to teach fundamentals
- Team-oriented mindset
- Dependability and punctuality
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Must meet school/district background check requirements

- Work is generally performed in the practice area and/or event area
- Work hours may vary depending on the needs of the activities office and practice needs, and may include days, evenings, and weekends
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position. They are included for informational purposes and are not all inclusive.
- Typical demands require the employee to:
- Spend majority of work time standing and walking while performing job duties
- Frequently lift burdens weighing up to 30 lbs. and occasionally push/pull burdens weighing up to 100 lbs.
- Frequently use eye, hand, and finger coordination to enable the use of athletic equipment, other equipment, and writing utensils

BENEFITS: PERA defined benefit contribution retirement plan included. This position is stipend-based and therefore does not include benefits other than paid sick leave as outlined by the Healthy Families Healthy Workplace Act.
