Head Custodian (6-15 EE) (Evenings)

Position Function

This position is a working supervisor, responsible for direction of the school custodial staff operations, employee performance/ quality control, and anticipation and response to maintenance and custodial needs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Trains and supervises the school custodians, assisting them when necessary.
  • Assists Custodial Supervisor in recommending work assignments for staff.
  • Evaluates building and grounds for cleanliness on a regular basis.
  • Assigns individuals to cover special events.
  • Orders supplies, and maintains sufficient inventory.
  • Reviews/ signs and submits all required payroll documentation of staff.
  • Identifies building and equipment repairs. Submits work orders to the Service Center.
  • Responsible for the snow removal from the exterior entry door areas and exterior sidewalks out to the curb.
  • Makes recommendation regarding annual performance appraisals of custodial personnel.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance and minor repairs to building and equipment.
  • Subjects to call for routine or emergency duties within the building.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Equipment

  • Use hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, and snow shovels.
  • Use of personal computer.

 
Travel Requirements
Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
 
Pay Rate
$18.90 per hour + .50 shift differential

Work Schedules
8 hours per day.
260 days per year
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to wear all appropriate safety gear, including masks.
  • Ability to comply with the school district's chemical hygiene program and follow MSDS sheets.
  • Ability to follow all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tolls and power equipment.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to describe orally or in writing cleaning, maintenance or repair problems as needed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Ability to read labels on containers and materials used in the course of work.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to process paperwork accurately according to standardized procedures.
  • Knowledge of how to use equipment, and train others in the use of equipment.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job.

License/ Registration/ Certification

  • Indiana Motor Vehicle Operator's license.

Education

  • Ability to read and write.


Experience

  • Previous experience in custodial responsibilities is preferred.
  • Previous experience in management is preferred.
