Primary Purpose:

The World History Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-based instruction that guides students in understanding global historical events, cultural developments, and the interconnectedness of societies over time. The teacher will foster critical thinking, inquiry, and global awareness while helping students develop skills in analysis, reading, writing, and historical interpretation.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Planning and Delivery

  • Develop and implement daily lesson plans aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for World History.
  • Deliver engaging and rigorous instruction using a variety of strategies including lecture, primary/secondary source analysis, multimedia, and student-led projects.
  • Teach historical eras including ancient civilizations, classical empires, global religions, revolutions, world wars, and modern global issues.
  • Encourage historical thinking through the use of timelines, maps, and cause-effect analysis.
  • Incorporate reading, writing, and research skills into content to build literacy in social studies.

Classroom Management and Learning Environment

  • Create a safe, respectful, and academically focused classroom culture.
  • Manage student behavior according to campus and district expectations.
  • Maintain an organized and student-centered classroom environment conducive to inquiry and discussion.

Assessment and Progress Monitoring

  • Use formative and summative assessments to measure student understanding and mastery of content.
  • Provide timely, actionable feedback to students and maintain accurate records of grades and performance.
  • Use data to inform instruction, reteach concepts, and differentiate learning.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Maintain regular communication with students, parents, and colleagues regarding academic progress and behavior.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers to align instruction, develop interdisciplinary connections, and share best practices.
  • Participate in professional development and campus initiatives that support student success and instructional improvement.

Campus and Extracurricular Involvement

  • Participate in school events, tutorials, parent conferences, and extracurricular activities as needed.
  • Support school-wide initiatives to promote college, career, and civic readiness.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in History, Social Studies, or a related field
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with a Social Studies 7–12 or 8–12 certification

Experience:

  • One or more years of successful classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to engage students in critical historical thinking

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of world history content and TEKS standards
  • Ability to implement instructional strategies that promote critical thinking and historical literacy
  • Effective classroom management and organization skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Competence in using technology to support instruction and student engagement
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching practices

    *Salary is commensurate with experience
    *Minimum Salary $66,000 for fully certified teachers

    *Works 187 Day Contract
    * Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
