Thrive Charter School is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and highly skilled Resource Special Education Teacher for Grades 6–8 to join our instructional team. The ideal candidate will support students with disabilities by providing targeted instruction, intervention, and academic support to ensure access to grade-level curriculum and success in middle school.
Position Overview
The Grades 6–8 Resource Special Education Teacher will work with students who have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), delivering small-group and individualized instruction in academic areas such as reading, writing, math, and study skills. This role also supports students' social-emotional development, organization, and self-advocacy skills as they transition through middle school.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct instruction in a resource room setting for students in grades 6–8
- Implement, monitor, and document Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) with fidelity
- Deliver differentiated, evidence-based instruction in reading, writing, math, and study skills
- Support students with executive functioning, organization, and self-advocacy skills
- Collect and analyze student data to guide instruction and monitor progress
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and access to curriculum
- Participate in IEP meetings, evaluations, and parent/guardian communication
- Develop and adapt instructional materials based on student needs
- Implement positive behavior supports and classroom management strategies
- Work closely with related service providers (speech, OT, PT, counseling, etc.)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (required)
- NJDOE certification in Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) and/or Middle School Special Education certification (required or eligible)
- Experience working with middle school students preferred
- Strong understanding of academic intervention strategies in reading, writing, and math
- Knowledge of IEP development, compliance requirements, and progress monitoring
- Strong classroom management and instructional planning skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a resource room or inclusion setting at the middle school level
- Training in structured literacy or other evidence-based intervention programs
- Experience supporting students with diverse learning and behavioral needs
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with families and staff
