EL Teacher
Position Purpose
Create authentic learning experiences for multilingual students utilizing appropriate methods and strategies. Implement effective curriculum, instruction, assessment, and evaluation in all content areas to support and create access to Tier 1 content area knowledge by developing students' English Language Proficiency.
Essential Job Functions
- Deliver appropriate instruction that follows developed and approved courses of study
- Develop effective instructional methodologies and assessments that focus on State standards
- Maintain appropriate and accurate student records and lesson plans
- Establish and maintain appropriate communications with colleagues, students and parents
- Participate in new learning related to English Language Development practices
- Administer and certify in administering state tests related to English development.
- Willingness to commit to an extra-curricular activity as assigned.
Equipment
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

PEA certified position
Work Schedule
Standard teacher work schedule as set forth in the Teacher's Contract.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state licensure requirements, knowledge of contemporary principles of language development and practices of teaching, knowledge of classroom and behavior management techniques which includes the following:
- Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs.
- Ability to cooperate with the school faculty and administration in developing and implementing an articulated instruction program.
- Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and guardians, staff members, and community representatives in providing an appropriate educational program.
- Ability to understand students' physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns.
- Skills in the application of contemporary principles and practices of teaching.
- Successful classroom management skills.
- Skills in exercising sound and professional judgment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.

License/ Registration/ Certification
- Current Indiana Teacher's License in English as a Second language.
Education
- BS/ BA degree in English as a New Language.
Experience
- Previous experience is preferred.
