Subject:   26/27 School Year Instrumental Music Instructor (Band)

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

• Teach instrumental band courses for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students, differentiated by skill level and developmental readiness.
• Provide instruction for jazz band, emphasizing improvisation, ensemble skills, and genre-specific techniques.
• Design and implement an adaptive music program that ensures equitable access and meaningful participation for students with diverse learning needs.
• Develop lesson plans aligned to state music standards and district curriculum expectations.
• Assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative assessment strategies and provide timely feedback to students and families.

Performance & Co-Curricular Activities

• Direct and supervise after-school pep band performances in support of school events and athletics.
• Prepare students for solo and ensemble participation, including repertoire selection, coaching, and adjudication readiness.
• Plan, rehearse, and conduct concerts and performances throughout the school year.
• Coordinate logistics for performances, including scheduling, communication, and student supervision.

Program Management

• Manage and maintain musical instruments, equipment, and inventory.
• Select appropriate music and instructional materials that support technical growth and musical expression.
• Collaborate with administration and colleagues to support scheduling, recruitment, and retention of band students.
• Promote a positive and inclusive band culture that encourages student engagement and pride in the program.

Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, administrators, and staff.
• Collaborate with other music educators and related service providers to support student success.
• Participate in professional development and contribute to school and district initiatives.
• Uphold school policies, procedures, and expectations for student safety and supervision.
