Job Title: Teacher on Special Assignment- Dean of Students, K-12
Work Year: 164.5 Days (plus 3 additional days at the beginning and the end of the school year paid at the employee's daily rate.)
Location: Hayden School District
Reports To: Building Principals
JOB SUMMARY
The Dean of Students, K-12, provides support to the school principals in the areas of student behavior, attendance, and discipline across all grade levels. This position works closely with students, staff, families, and community partners to promote a positive, safe, and inclusive school climate. The Dean also supports the supervision of selected extracurricular activities and may serve as the Administrator on Duty during home events.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must hold a current Colorado Teaching License
- Preferred to hold or be eligible for a Colorado Administrator License
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Collaborate with principals, counselors, staff, students, and families to promote and maintain a positive school culture and safe learning environment.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, staff, law enforcement, and community agencies.
- Oversee K-12 student behavior management systems and implement consistent disciplinary practices aligned with district policies and state law.
- Create and maintain a K-12 discipline matrix to establish clear behavioral expectations.
- Investigate and resolve behavior and attendance concerns in a timely, fair, and effective manner.
- Maintain accurate records of disciplinary referrals, actions taken, and attendance interventions. Communicate resolutions with administrators, teachers, and parents in a timely manner.
- Monitor and analyze student behavior and attendance data to guide decision-making and inform prevention/intervention strategies.
- Assist students in developing conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
- Coordinate and collaborate with outside agencies on student-related matters, including law enforcement and social services.
- Provide support and training to staff on classroom management and student engagement strategies.
- Support uncovered classrooms when guest teacher availability is unavailable
- Participate as a member of the school safety team(s) and assist with school emergency preparedness and response.
- Assist principals in district-level initiatives and committees (e.g., 1338, DAC, Instructional Team).
- Attend and contribute to meetings focused on student social-emotional, academic, and behavioral wellbeing.
- Supervise school activities and events, including acting as Administrator on Duty at home extracurricular and athletic events during evenings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- This position includes all student contact days, in-service days, and staff work days.
- Salary and benefits are determined by the Board of Education and governed by Board Policy.
EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated by the Building Principals and Superintendent in accordance with Board Policy.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Frequent standing, walking, and talking.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to distinguish sounds (bells, buzzers, beeps, etc.) and speak clearly.

- Moderate noise level typical of school environments.
