District Security Coordinator

 

Department: District Administration  Job Status: Full Time  
FLSA Status: Exempt  Reports To: Deputy Superintendent  
Grade/Level: Classified  Amount of Travel Required: Varies  
Job Type: Regular  Positions Supervised: Commissioned School Security Officers.  
Work Schedule: 
240-day contract. Daily hours are determined by length of contract and include a 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute breaks.    

 

POSITION SUMMARY
Monitor all buildings and grounds to increase security and safety for students, staff, and parents; coordinate trainings needed for staff.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
 Help provide for the safety and security of students, staff, visitors, and school district property in accordance with school district policies to provide an educational environment that is conducive to learning.  
 Coordinate with school officials and school resource officers as necessary to promote and provide a safe educational environment that is conducive to learning.   
 Conduct ongoing security monitoring of school buildings, grounds, and parking lots.   
 Monitor district video surveillance system to ensure safety of students, faculty, staff, parents, patrons, and visitors.  
 Monitor and assist with scheduling of district access control systems.  
 Develop safety presentations as needed for students, staff and parents.   
 Report concerns and incidents which may require corrective action to the building administration.  
 Identify and schedule appropriate training needed for safety and security purposes.   
 Assist school and district personnel in conducting safety drills.  
 Work with Deputy Superintendent to implement, revise, and maintain school and district crisis plans.  
 Assess district cameras daily to ensure functionality and proper placement.  
 Coordinate with school resource officers to ensure campus security.  
 Coordinate with building administrators the monitoring of identified, inappropriate student use of the Internet.  
 

Conduct ongoing campus security and safety checks.  

 

*Conduct comprehensive school safety assessments annually, as required by state law.

 

*Complete behavioral threat assessments on students and adults as needed.

 Attend staff meetings as required.  
 Supervise Commissioned School Security Officers.  
 Abide by all state and federal laws and regulations.  
 Report to the proper authorities any cases of suspected child endangerment, neglect, or abuse.   
 Report suspected bullying to building principal or designee as required by Arkansas law and district policies.  
 Adhere to all policies of the District.  
 Perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

 

Education:
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required 
Associate's Degree (two year college or technical school) Preferred, Field of Study: Technology, Criminal Justice, or Related Field 
Bachelor's Degree (four year college or technical school) Preferred, Field of Study: Technology, Criminal Justice, or Related Field 

 

 

Experience:
Previous law enforcement and technology experience preferred. 

 

 

Computer Skills:Shall be able to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency with computers, radios, communication equipment and programs associated with the position.  

 

Other Requirements:1. Successful completion of pre-employment background checks.
2. Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times while around students and other staff members.
3. Must meet all requirements to be a commissioned school security officer and supervise commissioned school security officers pursuant to Arkansas law (including, without limitation, Ark. Code Ann. 17-40-337).
