POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Reading Specialist – Primary
POSITION TYPE: Certified
QUALIFICATIONS: A valid Ohio Classroom Teacher's Certificate for Reading, K-12.
A Bachelor's Degree in Education (or higher) from an accredited college or university.
Demonstrated successful classroom teaching experience in reading and language arts.
Appropriate recommendations from student teaching supervisors or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment and classroom performance of the teacher.
CONTRACT
WORK DAYS: 186 days
RESPONSIBLE TO: Elementary School Principal
GENERAL
RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrate a positive ability to work harmoniously with others and exhibit an ability to discover and develop the reading potential of all students assigned to his/her care.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
AND
RESPONSIBILITIES: Remediate students with reading difficulties.
Plan and implement instruction for students with reading difficulties.
Provide for the testing of students to determine placement in the reading program and to determine progress after placement.
Administers reading inventories for informal reading assessment.
Recognize reading difficulties with recommendations for remediation.
Communicate with teachers and parents to further improve the reading-writing process.
Act as consultant to teachers needing assistance with reading enrichment activities.
Participate as a member of the PLC team providing feedback and suggestions for reading students.
Share current research on reading.
Attend professional development meetings and conferences as specified by the principal.
Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may assign.
