Position Title: Summer Custodian

 

Terms of Employment: 8 hours per day Monday - Friday (6:00 am - 2:30 pm)
Salary: $17.00 - $18.00 hourly
Benefits: Not eligible 
Start Date: June 1, 2026
 

 

 

Job Summary:

District 96 is seeking energetic and hardworking individuals for our Seasonal Summer Custodian team. This position is vital to our "Summer Blitz," ensuring our schools are deep-cleaned, repaired, and ready for students and staff to return in the fall.

 

 


Education/Qualifications/Skills:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Must be 17 years of age or older.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License.
  • Prior custodial or general labor experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis to ensure summer projects remain on schedule.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when assigned specific zones.
  • Ability to follow multi-step oral and written directions.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and safety.

 

 

Essential Duties (but are not limited to): 

  • Deep Cleaning: Scrubbing, waxing, and stripping floors; cleaning windows, desks, and classrooms.
  • Furniture/Equipment: Moving heavy furniture and classroom equipment to allow for floor maintenance.
  • Landscaping: Assisting with district-wide grounds maintenance and "Spring/Summer Cleaning" of outdoor spaces.
  • Painting: Performing minor touch-ups and painting projects as assigned.
  • Logistics: Loading/unloading supplies and moving equipment between district buildings.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Mobility: Walk, bend, twist at neck and trunk, squat, stoop, and reach above the head.
  • Lifting: Lift up to 25 lbs. from shoulder to overhead; lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
  • Strength: Push/pull items over 90 lbs. on wheels over various surfaces (carpet, tile, concrete, dirt).
  • Endurance: Standing/walking for up to 4 hours at a time.
  • Climbing: Climb stairs and maintain balance on ladders.
  • Senses: Visual acuity (close/distance/depth) and the ability to hear/exchange information verbally.
