Air Force Junior ROTC Office Instructor

Job Description: Air Force Junior ROTC is a full program and is not confined to the "regular"
school day, nor just the classroom.  Air Force Junior ROTC instructors conduct academic classes
during the regular school day, but also supervise Leadership Development Requirements (LDRs)
after regular school hours.  LDRs are experiential learning activities like drill teams, academic
bowl teams, marksmanship teams, etc.  A robust and successful AFJROTC program will have
several active LDRs throughout the year.

Position: Senior Aerospace Science Instructor, Air Force Junior ROTC (AFJROTC) Program

Location: Farmington High School, Mo

Salary Range: Minimum Instructor Pay (MIP) Scale: determined by public law in relation to
active-duty military pay and your Air Force retired pay.

Requirements:  Must have an approved application on file with HQ AFJROTC Instructor
Management Division and then successfully complete the interview and hiring selection
process with the high school administration.

Qualifications:

• Air Force Officers (Major thru Colonel); permanently retired less than 5 years from the effective date of employment; (may be waived if the applicant is otherwise exceptionally well qualified and based on the needs of AFJROTC). Officers still on active duty may apply when within 9 months of an approved retirement date
• Effective under the FY 2007 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), "Gray-Area" Guard and Reserve members who retire with a minimum of 20 "good years of service," but ineligible to draw their military retirement until age 60, may apply and would be subject to a Minimum Instructor Pay (MIP) formula established by AFJROTC
• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution
• Meet DoDI/AFJROTC weight/body fat standards (26% for males/36% females)
• Possess high standards of military bearing, appearance and moral character.
• Be dynamic and have an understanding of the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth patterns of high school students
• Technology skills necessary to deliver instruction
• Once hired, complete the mandatory Air Force JROTC Instructor Certification Course (JICC) as a condition of certification
• Once hired, must obtain a Missouri Teaching Certificate through Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) (State certification requirement)

Duties:

• Senior Instructor for the Air Force Junior ROTC program, responsible for leading and managing the AFJROTC program
• Teach the Aerospace Science portion of the AFJROTC program
• Maintain accountability and control of all assigned U.S. Air Force property
• Manage and control U.S. Air Force provided funds
• Ensure the AFJROTC program is managed in accordance with the Air Force / School contract
• Serve as the AFJROTC Department Head
• Lead a before and/or after-school activities such as Color Guard, Marksmanship and Rocketry Teams, along with performing drill instruction.
• Lead off-campus events such as field trips to museums, STEM learning centers, historical sites and military installations
• Exemplify a positive image of the Air Force, maintain a professional military appearance in uniform
