Position Purpose
The Assistant Principal serves as a key member of the leadership team, assisting the Principal in the administration and supervision of the Middle School educational program. The primary goal is to promote student development and achievement in alignment with Board of Education policies and state law. The Assistant Principal provides vital leadership in program development, instructional improvement, and professional staff development.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Student Support & Interventions: Demonstrate a strong understanding of implementing Tiered Interventions (MTSS/RTI) to support students academically and behaviorally.
- School Operations: Lead or assist in complex tasks, including the implementation of schoolwide initiatives such as Responsive Classroom and AVID, the development of the master schedule, and the administration of the student code of conduct.
- Special Education & Inclusion: Provide administrative oversight for Special Education programming to ensure compliance and student success.
- Student Life: Assist in supporting the growth of Athletics, Music, Theater, and Student Activities to foster a well-rounded student experience.
- Instructional Leadership: Support the Principal in supervising the instructional program and observing staff to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
- Community Relations: Serve as a visible, approachable liaison between the school, families, and the Gloucester City community.
Candidate Qualifications
- 0200 School Principal Certification
- Preferred Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of experience in Student Support Services is strongly preferred but not required.
