Job Summary:
Independent School District 196 seeks a Head Figure Skating Coach to lead a competitive high school program focused on skill development, team culture, and student-athlete growth. The head coach is responsible for all aspects of the program, including training design, competition preparation, and fostering a positive, disciplined environment aligned with district values.


 Key Responsibilities

  1. Program Leadership
    • Lead and manage all aspects of the figure skating program (varsity and sub-varsity levels as applicable)
    • Establish a clear vision, standards, and culture for the program
    • Promote sportsmanship, accountability, and academic balance
  2. Coaching & Athlete Development
    1. Design and implement practice plans focused on technical skill, performance quality, and conditioning
    2. Provide individualized feedback to support athlete progression
    3. Prepare skaters for competitions, including choreography input and performance strategy
  3. Team Operations
    1. Coordinate and supervise all practices, meets, and team events
    2. Manage roster selection, lineups, and competition entries
    3. Ensure compliance with rules and district policies
  4. Communication & Collaboration
    1. Maintain clear communication with athletes, families, and school administration
    2. Collaborate with athletic department staff on scheduling, logistics, and program needs
    3. Represent the program professionally within the school and community
  5. Administrative Duties
    1. Oversee equipment, uniforms, and budget needs
    2. Track athlete eligibility and attendance
    3. Support offseason engagement opportunities where appropriate

Qualifications

  1. Required
    • Prior coaching or competitive experience in figure skating
    • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
    • Ability to build a positive, inclusive team environment
    • Availability for all scheduled practices and competitions
  2. Preferred
    • Previous high school or club coaching experience
    • Knowledge of judging systems, choreography, and competition structure
    • Experience working with student-athletes in a school-based setting

Compensation:
According to contractual agreement.
