Description

Job Title: Police Officer                    Exemption Status/Test: Non-Exempt

Reports to: District Chief of Police    Date Revised: Mar. 2021

Dept. /School: Police Department

Contract: 207 Days

Primary Purpose:

To provide school-based law enforcement services that ensure a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment for students, staff, and visitors, while fostering an effective and cohesive program that builds positive relationships between law enforcement officers and students.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Texas Peace Officer License issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)

Valid Texas driver's license Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work well with youth and adults

Excellent oral and written communication

 

Experience:

Minimum of five (5) years' experience as a TCOLE certified peace officer or three (3) years' experience as a school resource officer (preferred)

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to de-escalate altercations

Ability to work under pressure in crisis situations

Ability to write a comprehensive and accurate law enforcement investigative report

Ability to utilize two-way radios to communicate with other officers and first responders

Provide valid Texas Class C driver license and prove insurability to operate District vehicles

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Security and Telecommunications

1. Maintain familiarity with community agencies and resources that support students and families.

2. Collaborate with school staff and administrators to identify and reduce potential safety risks.

3. Patrol District campuses and facilities to deter crime and maintain safety.

4. Investigate criminal incidents occurring within the district's jurisdiction.

5. Assist with traffic control and monitor campus activities, including after-hours athletic and school-sponsored events.

6. Complete required departmental training to maintain proficiency and compliance with assigned duties.

7. Adhere to all District policies, directives, and safety standards.

8. Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible conduct, serving as a role model for students, staff, families, and the community.

9. Remain available to work varied shifts as operational needs require.

10. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff within the line of authority.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Prolonged data entry; grasping/squeezing to sort for filing

Lifting: Occasional moderate lifting (15-30 pounds)

Environment: Work in a high volume, fast paced office environment; frequent multi-tasking

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
