Steamboat Springs School District is seeking a Gifted Education Resource Teacher.
This position provides gifted and talented students with appropriate learning activities and experiences
designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth and lead to
advanced academic achievement. This position will support students at both Steamboat Springs High School and Yampa Valley High School

SALARY INFORMATION:
Placement is based on a maximum of 9 years of experience, verified full time teaching (not substitute) experience and education. $55,000.00 - $81,788.00 (PhD)

- Provide services/support for gifted and talented students, working in collaboration with administrators and teachers to provide supplemental support for increasing advanced student achievement for all students, especially gifted and talented students, through staff development, instructional planning, and classroom support for teachers through both a push-in and pull-out program.
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
- Provide gifted and talented students at secondary level with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, social emotional, physical, and social growth and lead to advanced academic achievement.
- Will support students at both high schools, SSHS and YVHS based on caseload.
- Supporting staff by attending Professional Learning Communities (PLC;s) on a weekly basis.
- Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
- Provide services/support for gifted and talented students, working in collaboration with administrators and teachers to provide supplemental support for increasing advanced student achievement for all students, especially gifted and talented students, through staff development, instructional planning, and classroom support for teachers through both a push-in and pull-out program.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participates and collaborates.
- Helps teachers find ways of working more effectively with gifted/talented students.
- Responds to staff concerns in a sensitive manner.
- Provides time to be readily accessible to staff (regular and special education).
- Works cooperatively with administrators.
- Assists teachers in developing new gifted/talented/enrichment units in their particular subject areas and in adapting curriculum for gifted/talented students.
- Responds to requests from teachers in modeling instruction.
- Conducts consultation/in-service for the school staff.
- Coordinates selection and placement of students in the program.
- Explores programs and plans for the cooperative use of resources in the community.
- Helps counselor to schedule challenge classes and students.
- Represents the program to the Board of Education and the community effectively.
- Potential of being primary teacher for an elective course or core class depending upon teaching licensure.
- SSHS/AP Test Coordinator; Schedule, order and facilitate AP testing
2. Provides direct services.
- Provides individual counseling services for parents of students with special needs and concerns.
- Responsible for ensuring Advanced learning Plans (ALP) for students are developed and updated.
- Collaborates and supports ALP program with teachers and administrators
3. Designs coherent instruction
- Designs instruction that is aligned to SSSD Curriculum Frameworks.
- Provide opportunities for students to develop declarative, procedural and conceptual understandings through varied instructional activities.
- Designs instruction so that authentic application and cross-curricular integration is evident.
4. Reflects on teaching and potential adjustments for future instruction.
- Accurately determines the extent to which instructional activities achieved learning goals and enduring understandings.
- Cites specific evidence to support this judgment.
- Analyzes the relationship between the instructional activities and individual students' level of success.
- Provides specific suggestions with rationale on how the lesson can be improved for whole class and individual students.
5. Provides instruction that is clear and accurate.
- Provides instruction that is clear and accurate and supports the development of procedural and/or declarative as well as conceptual understanding.
- Shares learning goals and/or essential questions with students.
- Paces lesson appropriately for grade level and content area and adjusts for particular class and individual students' needs.
6. Provides instruction that includes multiple teaching strategies.
- Provides instruction utilizing multiple teaching strategies, aligned to SSSD Curriculum Frameworks.
- Uses differentiated teaching strategies for particular class, content area and individual students.
7. Establishes an environment of learning as evidenced by students explaining their thinking.
- Establishes an environment where students are expected to explain their thinking in regards to procedural and declarative understanding as well as conceptual understanding and engage in discourse in ways that help them learn.
8. Provides feedback during instruction.
- Provides feedback on strengths and needs that is timely, accurate, specific, constructive and substantive.
- Makes provisions for whole class and individual students to use feedback in their learning.
9. Establishes and maintains effective classroom management for learning.
- Establishes and maintains a classroom environment in which students are engaged in learning opportunities and are supporting other students' opportunities to learn.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree from accredited institution.
- Valid Colorado teaching license/certificate with endorsement in the area(s) of teaching assignments, ELA preferred. Gifted endorsement strongly preferred or willing to pursue.
- Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with administrators, teachers, students and families, and community members.
- Ability to conduct studies, prepare reports and make oral presentations.
- Computer knowledge required in computer-related subjects, and computer literacy preferred for other content areas.
- Ability to maintain individual student records and class files.
- Ability to compile statistics for research and reports.
- Ability to discipline students in keeping with school and district procedures.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
DECISION MAKING: An example of a typical decision made by an individual in this position is to interpret policies/procedures and best practices. Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies and building and department procedures. An incorrect decision made by this position could impact the district legally causing the financial condition of the district to be affected. Errors made in decision-making could potentially result in substantial cost to the District or damage to the credibility of the District.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Excellent written communication skills. Ability to effectively present information and respond professionally to questions from groups of parents, community members, commissions, colleagues and Board of Education.
