Job Title: Mechanic Supervisor

Salary Range: $51,907- $85,221 (Commensurate with experience) 

Supervisor: Director of Transportation

Job Classification: Non-Exempt 

Contract Length: 12-months (260 days) 

Job Summary 

The Mechanic Supervisor This position reports to the Director of Transportation.

Essential Job Functions

Supervise repairs and services a variety of gasoline and diesel school buses and bus hydraulic or air systems.
Repairs, overhauls and maintains specialized equipment.
Repairs, and overhauls brakes, ignition and fuel systems, transmissions differentials, front and rear axle equipment.
Supervise and operates various types of shop equipment, machinery, precision instruments, specialized tools and devices.
Make initial inspection in difficult cases and diagnosis trouble with aid of technical and diagnostic computers.
Assist in training and evaluation of garage employees.
Promote high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work-connected areas.
Reface brake drums and relines brakes.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.

Job Specifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required)

  • Thorough knowledge of the construction, design, repair and adjustment of diesel equipment and related machinery.
  • Must pass an annual physical examination to include random drug screening.
  • General knowledge of computers in order to maintain records of work.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by technical and mechanical training.

Experience: Prior experience as an automotive and truck mechanic. Extensive experience including supervisory experience in skilled automotive and truck mechanical work.

Certification and License: Valid Virginia Driver's License Class B, CDL with school bus, passenger and air brake endorsement. Requires or must obtain ASE certification of school bus. Virginia State inspector certificate desired.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

 Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to operate equipment; see and read printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; physical agility to lift 50 pounds; to bend, stoop and reach overhead.
